do you have a library in a nearby to nearby town, or there at wounded knee? Many libraries provide free internet access to Ancestry Plus. How about a Family History Center(Latter Day Saints)? they also provide free computer access to ancestrey, and their own archives wib site.

i do not understand how Alec Spider could show up on the 1857 Censuses, as those ceensuses listed by name only the heads of households, no. of men, no of women and no. of children.John Star may have appeared on the Northern Agency rolls at yellow medicine, though.

Well I'm thinking it's official that Joseph Blacksmith is Alex's dad. Do you have any idea where Joe hails from? I'm on my phone and unable to zoom in on the census' to find him. Is he related to Anyone in the Wabasha family?

There aren't any public libraries here, not even a store nearby. We only have a post office. The only libraries are at the schools or college center some 25 miles north. So my search capabilities are limited to this site and I've found so much but am unable to zoom in on the attached censuses.

twilyumz; boy you are out in god's little acre. just kidding.
On your browser, look for Page on the toolbar ,by the house icon. click on it and scroll down to Zoom, and then select the % increase in size. This will enlarge the page you are looking at.
please don't misunderstand,i am not arguing with you. I am wondering if the blacksmith may have been tacanrpikiyewin's occupation.thinking and confirming something are two different things.
Joseph was the son of Stephen Blacksmith. He is a descendant via his paternal gr.father,Thomas wabashaw.
The vital dates do not jive with your John Star (b. @1858), nor with Alex Spider(b.@1872). Stephen Wabashaw/blacksmith was born 1862 MN,died in1924. his son Joseph C. was born in 1897 and died in1944.

How could I get a certified tree that will have all of my info. I don't have the slightest clue where to start. Would it be expensive to get a geneologist certified tree?

Twilyumz; there were 2 Joseph Blacksmiths, the one at sisseton was married to Archgouwin. His indian name was Wakanhdisapa or Black Lightning.they had several several children, including 3 daughters, one being Good Star Woman.this Joseph and his family lived first atCrow Creek91863-1866,then moved to Santee until,in 1869, whenn they moved to sisseton Reservation. he took the name Blacksmith, because he learned the blacksmith trade while at Crow Creek. Ref. 1. Through Dakota Eyes by woolworth and anderson..Ref. 2 the Dakota Internment At fort snelling,1862-1864. by unfortunately, the ealry censuses at both Drow Creek(this one was damaged and oly several pages exist), and Santee, up to 18884 are like the early censuses done in Minnesota before 1862.

John would have been 13 when Alex was born. I found three references that Joseph Blacksmith was his father. Who was Joseph's parents?

you would need to contact the Aberdeen Office of the BIA,by writing them a letter, explaining your situation, and give the information you have9send copies0 and request an heirship Card. Your other option is to contact the National archives as i have suggested twice and get the heirship reports on both. this is cheaper thhiring a genealogist whomay charge you several hundred dollars. on Alex Spider, his alleged father

Asa lovejoy is a ggggrandfather, but there is reference of a "lovejoy connection" by Tamara. Can you tell me what this means? Please forgive my naïveté and/or ignorance. Is the whole purpose of finding ancestors that can be traced to Mdewakanton? I see many of the posts to be five years old.

twilyumz: when Jamie set up the web site way back when, its purpose was to help those who were trying to find the documentton they needed to join the Wolchild lawsuit. it ha brodened in aspect, oso that we re helping anyone who is a sioux Indian to find the information on their ancestors, as they have a right to know their roots, which has been denied them for many many years. Marie Lovejoy, was a daughter of Asa Lovejoy. Asa lived for a time in Minnesota after the 1862 uprising.Marie is your connection to Asa Lovejoy. it would have helped you get in on the Wolf child lawsuit, had you known this before the deadline, which has now passed by many months.

I apologize for sounding so abrupt at times, am writing from my phone. Takes so long to write, I often lose my train of thought. I don't see Asa on the qualifying census list to be a Shakopee member. Is there any way Asa would've been my link to be a plaintiff?

Well shucks, color me ignorant. But I got to find some names and know a lil more about myself and where we get our peculiarities. I am still wondering about Ajiji and where he hails from. Have you seen the name somewhere? I got confirmation that Alex was a Blacksmith and now I'm wondering if this is the same bloodline that comes from Mdewakanton, the Wabashaws that changed their name also.
