What puzzles me, Dawn is that Jennie's Indain name is Winona Tanka(Big first daughter) and in the Fort Snelling book we have, she is listed as having baptized a child named John Hebo, age 6 yrs., with a man named Hebo. Hebo is none other than one of the Wabasha dynasty of chiefs or a son of one of them. the baptism took place on Apr.26, 1863. Look on page 153 of the book. And we know she is the first born daughter. I LOCATED A WINONA TANKA TODAY THAT WAS IN SOME OLD FAMILY PAPERS. IN 1878 SHE MARRIED MOSES WAKEMAN. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WILL HELP IDENTIFY ANYONE OR NOT. JACKIE

jackie; Iwould also appreciate any information on the Winiona Tanka you found. if you allow that the native americans back then didn't tell times , like we do, and alllow at least 5 years tolerance, I can see the distinct possibility that there were two Winona Tankas. this would blow the dictum I was told, to @@@@@. I was told that when a member of the tribe was given a name, that no one else in the tribe could take the name. I am already have been told that there were 2 Tatiyopawastewins, and I do have 6 Cekpawins, and now qpossibly 3 Good Star Women.

Jackie,
Thanks for the "Kanginupa - Two Crow" testimony.
Here is what I derived from it: My Great-Great-Great Grandfather "Wayaruga," was the father of two sons and a daughter (according to the testimony in the Two Crow probate hearing).
1. Tawotahedua, father of Hupa, father of Two Crow.
2. Wakanhoyekewin, mother of Paul Mazakute, father of Rebecca M. Frazier.
3. Cituwe, father of Mazaadidi Dennis Kitto, father of Joseph T. Kitto, father of Gordon E. Kitto, Sr., my Dad.
That is why I called Grandmother Rebecca Frazier, "Grandmother." I always wondered about that.
Thank you,
MIKE

In my eagerness to thank Jackie, I misspelled Grandfather Tawotaheduta's name.

I-YI-YI, Tahansi
it is just crazy about all these Mary's, I am still wondering which one is the wife of Grandpa Wabash II, we are still looking for his wives names, other than (a hochunk woman) and we still think "maybe" one was "Harriet Wabasha" mother of James Wabasha on 1886 census, because we know that Grandpa Thomas Wabasha (Wapate) had a brother named James... tomorrow i will continue to search for the other childern of Bets, i will let you know what i find. Here is one from left field, what if Grandma Bets was married to Grandpa Wabasha at one time? They did all come from the Farmer Camp area. Yeeeha! lol , after all her middle name was "Mary" just somthing to get you goin. :-) wapate

Hey Dawn I am using the same genealogy as Francis, and it shows Lucy Dick Taopi Thomas as the adopted daughter of Samuel and Eunice Taopi, the paper does not show Lucy's birth parents. Good Luck! wapate

In the 1885 Santee census, William and Jane Dick had a daughter, Lucy Dcik, age 7. I know that Jane died and William remarried to a Sarah Graham. This could be the same Lucy.
