I am looking for any information on a Lucy Tiopa. She would have lived in Goodhue county in 1900. She is the mother to Jenny Georgina who was married to Joseph Williams.
If anyone has a 1900 MN census and could check to see who she is living with her age any thing to go on. I do not know who her spouse was.
Thank you.

Dawn,
On the Annuity Roll dated 2nd Quarter 1885, page 4. 1. Solon Taope (Family No. 39) Male Age 32 2. Lucy (Wife) (Family No. 39) Female Age 23
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the information, but I think Dawn is looking for Lucy Tiyopa not Lucy Taopi.
tiyopa means door. Taopi means something else.

Actually I am looking for both. Lucy Tiyopa is the mother to Lizzie Bue and Lucy Taopi is the mother to Jenny Georgiana. Some how Jenny is the niece to Lizzie and I am trying to find out how.
Thanks to everyone for the great leads.
Hermin is it great to see you back on line.

As usuall I need some more help. It looks like Lucy Tiopa lived in the Burnside township in 1897. Lucy Tiyopa lived in Prarie Island Towship or settlement. I can not seem to find Burnside, did it possibly go by another name? Both are in Goodhue county.
Thanks again to everyone helping me to try and put this puzzle together.

Hi Dawn I hope this might help, but maybe I am wrong, I have been reading and searching and think you may be another victim of bad spelling, here is what I found: It looks to me that maybe (Tiopa, Tyopa and Taopi) may be the same, although there are many, I found on The Birch Cooley census on pg 1, numbers 18 - 19 this: 18 Wounded Solon Tyopa Husband 19 Lucy Tyopa Wife Now on "Old Bets" Genealogy it shows this: Son of Old Bets (Betsey Mary St.Clair) 1. Moving Soul (Nagioskan) or Taopi (His Wound) b.c.1824, d. 2-18-1869, married- Hapan, or Lucy Taopi b.c.1818, - d.1898 Then it shows one of His sons listed this way: 2. Solon Taopi (Wiyopeyatahoksidan), b. May 1860, d.2-5-1920, married Lucy Columbus Taopi, b. Feb. 1863 But yet on the Birch Cooley pg.1 , #18 #19 they are listed as "Tyopa". so it looks like it is one of those long search deals for you, just a process that many of us have done already "anit". I just hope I was some help and just give me a slap if i cornfused you. ok, LOL If i see any thing pop up i will let you know, "K-din" Wapate

I have been think the same thing that it is just being spelled wrong. In Lucy Tiopa's last will and testament is is written by a person at the county so they could have spelled it wrong. It says township of Burnside in the county of Goodhue. It says that it was written in March of 1897. It went through the probate court May 1900 so I have to assume she died some where in between. In all of the Lucy Tiyopa,Tiopa or Topai's I can not find one that list a child with the name of Jennie Georgina. Jenny was born around 1868. She leaves all of her property to Jennie. Jennie lives with her aunt Lizzie Bue and they are together on the 1886 census and continues to live with her until she marries.
Thanks

What puzzles me, Dawn is that Jennie's Indain name is Winona Tanka(Big first daughter) and in the Fort Snelling book we have, she is listed as having baptized a child named John Hebo, age 6 yrs., with a man named Hebo. Hebo is none other than one of the Wabasha dynasty of chiefs or a son of one of them. the baptism took place on Apr.26, 1863. Look on page 153 of the book. And we know she is the first born daughter.

I am wondering if this is the same Jenny Winona Tanka....
Dawn you post that she was born around 1868....
Hermin you post that Winona Tanka and Hebo baptized a son in 1863....
So the question become were there 2 Winona Tanka's?
Are there 2 Jenny's with the name Winona Tanka?
Sorry ladies don't mean to bust up the discussion, but want to make sure we are on the same path discussing the same person.

Good point Wazi. There must have been two of them. I will have to go back and look but I am not sure if the one in the Fort Snelling book showed an English name. I think it just had the Indian Name.
