ITS INTERESTING TO POINT OUT THAT THE NAME BEFORE NARCISSE DRAPPEAU IS LOUIS GAUTHIER(OR GOODHIER)(POSSIBLY SPOKEN-'GOOD HIRE')...I WONDER IF MARY GOOD HIRE WAS HIS DAUGHTER(JUST A SUPPOSITION!)...THE PROXIMITY OF THE NAMES MAKES ONE THINK!...AND HE COULD HAVE BEEN A FRIEND OR PARTNER GIVING HIS DAUGHTER AS A WIFE TO STRENGTHEN BONDS BETWEEN THE TWO...THIS IS ALL JUST SPECULATION...JON img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ndrappeau1870rl7.jpg

Jimmy, Can you check the book for other entries on Pat Gaughen or John Kinkaid of John Brindle (Brinnell)? Thanks Below is a Chart of what I have based on the items I have. In the Canadian Biography of Jack Sully, it says his real name was Arthur McDonald. I know John Kinkaid rode with Sully as well. I wonder if Kinkaid could have been an alias for Brindle. If anyone else has any thoughts on this line, let me know. I would be glad for the help. Jessie Hagan I looked, and found 2 short articles, both from "Saga of the Missouri River Reveille," by Adeline Gnirk, published in 1981 by Gregory Times-Advocate, Gregory, SD. This is an article about Leon Drappeau. This is about the Gaughen farm supply store.

The Drappeau article mentions "the notorious and bloody dance at the George Pete farmstead." Does anybody know what that is about? I am related to George Pete and would like to know.

Jimmy or BIG JON,
Could I ask one of you to make a couple of copies from the "Saga of Sully Flats." I would like a copy of page 310 and the title page as well.
While Adeline Gnirk, obviously had some very good resources, I can't help but feel that she has somehow inserted an extra generation into this family.
If you look at the 1860 and 1870 Census, Narcisse Drappeau was born in 1830. On the 1860 census, he has 8 year old Marie in his household. this has to be Mary Drappeau, who married John Kinkade and Jack Sully, as she was born 25 DEC 1851.
According to Gnirk, Mary was Mary Goulette daughter of Mary Goodhire and Henry Goulette. Mary Goodhire was supposed to be the daughter of Narcisse Drappeau. I know that Native American girls marry young, but this would have meant that Narcisse Drappeau had a daughter when he was around 10 years old and that she in turn had a daughter when she was 10 or 11 in 1851. This doesn't seem probable.
I feel like she has mistakenly inserted the Goulette family into this line by mistake. Other items in the resources I have posted here would seem to indicate that Mary Brindle was the Granddaughter of Narcisse Drappeau, not Great-Granddaughter.
I just wanted to see if anyone else has any thoughts on this.
I have also found out that the wife of Narcisse Drappeau was supposed to be Mary Goodline, daughter of Yaknkton Sioux, "Scared of his Shadow" and Crow Creek, Wishtu.
Does anyons have any ideas how I might find out more on "Scared of his Shadow?"

Page 310. Title page. Publication information. I love Gnirk's books, and I have found a lot of stories, information, and pictures I wouldn't have otherwise, but I have found quite a few mistakes, so take it with a grain of salt. I have found several times where dates will be off. Sometimes I will find 2 or 3 different birth dates for the same person in the same book. Also, one of my ancestors, Josette Dorian is listed as the daughter of Pierre Dorian, who was a guide on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Pierre Dorian was born about 1740, and died in 1810 in Missouri Territory. Josette, who is supposedly his daughter was married in 1860, had her first child the next year, and had her last child in 1877. Obviously there are generations missing here, so she might have put in too many as you say.

Hello, new to this board, not sure if I need to register or something, it didn't seem to ask me to. And I am not sure if there are certain "protocols" to posting here, sorry if I am stepping in inapropriately. I have been trying to read all the posts on the Drappeau, Goulett, Sully etc. And I don't think I have them all yet, but I am glad someone noticed the strange time frame of two generations within 21 years. The main thing I wanted to discuss though was this woman Mary Goodline (as opposed to Mary Good Hire) because I am working on researching a friend's family and she has a hand written tree in the front of a book given to her for her son who was born in the mid 1980's. Here is what it says for this line (This was written by Julia and Morgan's son Daniel, so I trust at least his knowledge through Mary Brindell and Patrick Gaugen): Julia Gaughen (b.Jan 1, 1900) m. Morgan Barlow Her Parents are: Mary Brindell (b.March 25, 1864) and Patrick Gaugen Her Parents are: Mary Gullay m. John Brindell Her parents are: Mary Goodline (Ikcha Wasthe) m. Antouet Gullay Her Parents are: Fraid of Shadow and ?? Some of this info seems to mesh with what you guys have all been talking about, (with obvious spelling variations), but thought I'd put my two cents in and see if this helps any and to see if I can be pointed in any direction in the many many many posts regarding this family. I am VERY new to this board and to any Native American research, though have been doing genealogy for some time so get the ins and outs of sources that may have errors etc.

Dear jesse: ifyou have access to a library that gives you free access to Ancestry.com, or a Mormon Family History Center in your area, log on to Ancestry.com and see what you come up with when you type in your ancestor's name. ancestry now has most of the Indian Censu Records from 1885 - 1940.. You mignt also try the Mormon's web site at www.familysearch.com YOu have to register frist and give yourself a user name and a password so you can log on again in the future.
