Marnie: subtract their ages from year that that census(which shows age of each when they married)Then add the number of years each had been married to that date from the first step. It will give you the approximate year they married. Use this date when you check at Knox County Courthouse in Nebraska to see if there is a record. If they got married Indian style, there won't be a record. If there is a civil ceremony, there may or may not be a record. The next step is to check at Center for Western Studies at Augustana College. then you can also try going through the back issues of the Indian Newspaper that did a great job listing mariages, births, etc. If they got maried in South Dakota, then that is another matter.

Dear Cousin,
Yes I did receive your most welcome email, concerning Aunt Genevieve. I learned her sister was Edith and she also had brothers. You may well have been the person who told me.
I wondered how I was related to Uncle Steve and Uncle Oliver. They were jovial men. I was really young when I met them so my memories are fleeting, but I do remember their laughs and the smiles on their faces.
During one of my many misadventures in life I met some Red Wing relatives in Springfield, Missouri, I do not recall their names but they were certainly nice to me.
Cousin Reuben Kitto, Jr., would be the person to talk about purchasing a video of the memorial. His email is Kittok@aol.com
He too, is a very nice man who shares information with any relative who asks.
Talk to you later,
Your cousin,
Mike Kitto

Hey Guys, I have pix of myself and Aunt Genevieve from the late 50's....ah, I very, very young. She worked at St. Joe Hospital in Omaha & she would drive from Fremont every day, 'bout 35 miles. Aunt Gene (as I know her by) is my Mother's cousin and I guess you could say I was her favorite. She use to take me home with her on week-ends and I'd have a wonderful time with the family. But I never did pick up on the language, wonder how I missed that because Dakota was spoken fluently in their household. Fond memories!

many times you hear people say "sure wish i'd have written some of that stuff down" when referring to realtives that have passed, and the stories they told about family, names, dates, places, etc? that's what i say about genevieve when i get really frustrated in my search, because she knew a lot , and never forgot anything!!!! i have heard many good stories as genevieve spent quite a bit of time with us- one time she visited for a month--- we ate a lot and did beadwork---we also visited her many times in Fremont-- she alway waited for us at the door of her apartment bldg., and was ready to go to Marcies cafe to eat. She was good company and I miss her !!! wouldn't she have loved this site? kit

Mitacuya Owacin, I found this website and it may be of interest to you. My Great Grandmother is listed in Husasa Band, with 4 children and Mother under "Red Leg's Band' - Payahiyawin 5 Mike 'The following is my response to the Committee after receiving the list of names of the people who were interred at Fort Snelling to add to the site. I am sure that I won't be the only one who reacts in this way. I hope not anyway. The public needs to see these names and remember them. I am new to the forum and have been busy catching up on all the old posts. My gggrandmother was Anna Hakewaste (Wilson) Redwing. Would it be possible for you to send me a copy of the 1902 Santee census? If not, tell me what I need to do to get one. Thank you very much. ( I spent most of my school life at St. Mary's looking over the river at Santee.)
