the Dumarce/Demarce you mentioned at Ft. totten was Henry Dumarce who also spelled his surname Demarce. He went by the latter name when he married his first wife in Minnesota.

Hi I haven't been on this site for awhile but was just browsing and happen to come across this post I have a little info about Peter Dumarce. As I was doing my research I found my great grandmother's baptism record in the Santee Agency Baptisim Register records through the Center for western studies. The info was listed as follows: Register Title & Number Santee Agency Baptisim Register Register Page # 66-67 Sarah Doane Chapman (my great grandmother) her Parents Peter Tatecarnajin and Ellen Hapanpazizika Her dob (Sarah's) just 1864 Place: Crow Creek Agency, South Dakota date of Baptisim: not listed Place: not listed Officiating Minister John P. Williams
Then if you look in the Santee 1902 Register of Indian Families, Tatekarnajin is again listed as Sarah Chapmans father but her mother is listed as just Hapanziwin.
Here is where I fit in, Sarah married Joseph Chapman and one of their children, Amelia, was my mom's, mother.
Also Peter is listed on the 1887 USI census as Peter Demare Tatekarnajin in the Buffalo Lake District with wife named Heahdewin and one other person living with them was Tayanhiyayswin. This info came from when I still had Ancestry .com. Hope this may help and I will be watching for any more info. I still don't know who Sarah's mother was for sure.
