Could someone with ancestry.com please look to see if there is a marriage record for Peter and Susan? Maybe more SW census pages? Date of death for them (last census appearing on)?

vicky: susan and peter were married in MN sometime before the outbreak. they baptized their son Joseph and a daughter at Ft. snelling-during the Internment of 1862-1863.
Susan was born Oct. 1843 . Peter was born Apr. 1840 MN(US Census Red Iron Lake, Marshall,SD). In this Census , Peter was listed as Age 60. and susan age 60.it also lists them married for 20 years.this would have them married @1860 in MN.
There is no Marriage Record for them at Ancestry.
The 1900 US Census has them married for 20 years.

correction: I meant to say that Peter DuMarce as Tatekarnajin and a woman named mahpiyakoyakewin baptized the two children at Ft. Snelling.Is it possible that peter had 2 wives? Mahpiyakoyakewin and susan at the same time? it was common for Metis to have more than one wifke then.

So does anyone know when Susan died, and she must have had Joseph before they got married as he was born in 1850 given his age on the baptismal of Ft. Snelling. Does anyone know what happened to this Joseph? Or anything abt. Susan and Peter and who their parents were?

Sis, check the 1920 census above. Susan states she has never has any children! The column with the 0 and the next column with the 0.

Must be a different Susan? Or, maybe rescuing a sisters children or something?

I errored above in saying that the Marpiyakoyakewin who with Tatkarnagin(Peter Dumarce), baptized the two children in 1863 was Susan. i don't know who Mahpiyakoyakewin was.

Tatekarnajin(peter dumarce?) and a Mahpiyakoyakewin are listed as parents of the two children Joseph and Mary that were baptized at Ft. Snelling, in 1863.
Peter apparently was also married to Susan. The 1900 US Census lists they were married for 20 yrs, which would be around 1880.

Cisco: peter and susan both tdied in Marshall,SD in 1920.
Reference: South Dakota Death index 1905-1959.

Here are the dates of their death: Peter died 14 June 1920, Marshall Cty,SD.Susan died 15 Sept. 1920,Marshall SD.

If Susan was born c. 1844-5, how did she have a son Joseph in 1850? The parents of that Joseph are not Peter and Susan DuMarce.

According to the 1915 state census, Peter and Susan married in 1862.

You make a good point vicky. susan could not have had Joseph in 1850. it had to be the other wive mahpiyakoyakewin, whose birth date we don't know.

Hi Vicky, Yes, I agree I don't think they are the same Susan's. We haven't achieved too much after 5 years of searching and I don't think we'll ever find her. Keep hoping tho.

The father of Joseph can't be Peter either, unless he fathered him when he was 11.
The math doesn't work on this one. :-)

Ok, so 1 down and 2 more to go, u guys have me convinced this is not the Susan. As far as it saying she didn't have any children she may have not told the truth. And just so the record is stright Joseph was born in 1858. And I want to thank u all for having so much patients with me, I know I am stubbron it is just I want to find her so bad.

And one more thing how did they have 2 children they baptised at Ft. Snelling and then they stated on Census they had none.

Have you sent off for Susan's death certificate? They sometimes contain useful information.
Does anyone have the baptismal record for Joseph and Mary? I haven't seen it and cannot find it. Is it certain that the father is Peter? Is only the Indian name listed? (Could be someone other than Peter?? I see hermin1 has a question mark by Peter's name) The mother's name is not even close to Susan's. I'd love to see the record if someone has it to share.

Vicky, Have not sent off for Susan's death records as can not find a record of her death other that what Joseph has written in his bible and he says te Susan Thomas April 1875, have looked thru lots of records and looked at every Susan and death dates and nothing. Joseph's baptismal was done by father Ravoux in ft. snelling and is on the list of baptismals for Ft. snelling. Joseph states or has put down that he was born in 1858 so if this is true all the Joseph's on baptismal list with a mother by the name of Marpyakoyakewin could only find one that qualifys. Then later in school records and when Joe gets married he writes down mother's name as Susan. So that is how I connected Susan aka as Marpyakoyakewin (i misspelled).

Here's the email for SD death certificates. All you need is the year she died- 1920. They have found death certificates for me with a 10 year span when I didn't know the DOD.

Have you tried NARA for Joseph's probate? Do you have probates for Peter and Susan?

cisco: I tried to find something on him and his sister Marygiven their birthdate and got nothing.
It is possible that the children either died or grew up and got married.
Vicky do you know if there are Censusesor annuity rolls for sisseton prior to the 1875 land allotments?

I had copied from the card for the baptisms,I didn't know when I copied them(2006)that peter duMarce was Tatekarnajin.I since found out that was who he was.
the baptisms were part of a listing of the Baptisms done by Father Ravoux and Father Roberts at Ft. Snelling. they are in the book The Dakota internment At fort Snelling,1862-1864, Caroline Monjeau-Marz?(sorrow bout the last name).

Hey hermin1. I am not aware of any Sisseton censuses or rolls before the 1875 land allotments. You might ask Sara though. She would know if there is something earlier and she has knowledge of what is housed at the Historic Preservation Office.

I have DuMarce/DeMarce's on my tree. I have found that DuMarce for Ft Totten/ Devils Lake Sioux eventually became DeMarce. So might try a different spelling. Hope this tip was helpful.
