Just a little bit more information I found last night: James Williams's Indian Name translates to One Moccasin, and Lizzie's translates toYellow Horn.I found the following among those who signed a Treaty on September 5, 1888 1888 with the US Government: James Williams Age 31, Fast Walker Age 44, and William Wizi Age 55.
I would appreciate it if you would share with us , the name of the Sully who married the daughter of Bone Necklace. I am not good with trnslting the Dakota names, but I think that Wanyeca translates to fire fly. i did find the following word in Dakota, zizi which translates to brown. I am wondering oif the Jijiwin would be the equivlaent of this and it translates to brown woman.

De Ann Dion. I remebered something I had read in the South Dakota Historical Scoiety collection Volume!!. 1904 .it mentions FAst Walker, and Bone Necklace. thanks to Jimmy it is posted in this section as "the Rescue of the Shetak Captives in November,1862. Big Jon has also complemented this with a reference that talks about the attack on the Shetek settlement . i have tried several times using Google to try to find something, anything biographical about Bone Necklace, other than the treaties he was signee to, to no avail. also I found in the 1886 CrowCreek Census,Buffalo ,SD, Wizi at age 53 listed as husband with his wife Walksin Pine age 37, son guy Wizi age 10, and daughter Amy Wizi aage 17. thanks for sharing the names of the daughter(of Bone Necklace') spouses. The S.R. I think means Sisseton Reservation, and the YS after the last name , may mean Yankton Sioux.

There is an article in today's Minneapolis Star Tribune's front page about this lawsuit. Below is the timeline of the whole thing.
Historical timeline
A 'great rift' widens
Despite vet deaths, families forgive The organization in this dispute is known formally as the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux (Dakota) Community, typically shortened in official papers to Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. 1862 Dakota Conflict, once known as the Sioux Uprising, in southern Minnesota. (Dakota Indians often have used the name Sioux, still used in some official references.)
1863 U.S. government confiscates Dakota land in Minnesota, expels about 1,500 Dakota and nearly 2,000 Winnebago Indians.
1886-1889 Government census finds 264 Indians remaining in Minnesota who were formerly affiliated with the Mdewakanton Sioux. They come to be dubbed "friendlies" or "loyal Mdewakanton."
1888-1890 Congress provides money, equipment and three separate land tracts to the Mdewakanton Sioux identified in the census. The lands, later known as "1886 lands," are located around Morton (Lower Sioux), Prairie Island and Prior Lake.
1934 Congress passes Indian Reorganization Act, allowing American Indians to organize constitutional governments with elected tribal leaders. Soon thereafter, Lower Sioux and Prairie Island Indian communities organize on "1886 lands."
1969 Norman Crooks and a dozen others organize the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux (Dakota) Community on "1886 lands" near Prior Lake.
1980 Interior Department transfers control of Mdewakanton lands to the three modern tribal communities in Lower Sioux, Prairie Island and Shakopee.
1982 Shakopee Indian community opens Little Six Bingo Palace.
1992 Shakopee Indian community opens Mystic Lake Casino.
2003 Sheldon Wolfchild, rejected for membership at Shakopee, files suit in U.S. Court of Federal Claims, alleging the government mismanaged its trust obligations to the descendants of the loyal Mdewakanton since at least 1980.
2004 Judge Charles Lettow rules that a trust relationship with the lineal descendants of the loyal Mdewakanton was "breached by the United States through actions taken in ... 1980 and thereafter."
2006 Lettow issues summonses to Shakopee and Prairie Island Indian communities to defend their "interests" in the case as third-party "agents of the federal government." He suggests they could ultimately play a role in calculating a damage award against the government, possibly on the basis of gaming revenues.

Hi Deann, I'm also searching Isaac Dion and Hattie Williams for my dear friend and this is what I have found so far:
John Williams/Ciqawasase/Little Brave Born around 1833 Baptised on May 12, 1873 at St. Philips Chapel, age 40, born at Medicine Creek (you can find a copy of this in the Baptism records on this site) His father: Ciqawasose His mother: Tamahecawin
Children were: Sally Williams/Aupeturatewin, born at Crow Creek ~ 1857 Frances Williams/Winyanwastina, born at Grand River ~ 1860 Hatty Williams/Kinsmaniwin, born at Wiyukeza ~ 1869 (I have yet to figure out where this is)
All were baptised at St Philips Chapel on May 12, 1873 (Vol 2 page 56-57) Parents names were listed as John Williams, Ciqawasoso and Paijiji
They appear on the Yankton Census records in 1890 (#273), 1895-1909. Jijiwin died on 6/8/1897 according to Hattie's History card. Ciqawasose lives next to his middle daughter Frances (Irvin(g)] most of his life. According to the Iapi Oaye, John Williams married Isabelle Simon on 11-4-1900. However, she doesn't show up until the 1902 Yankton Census, and she appears as Louisa S. It's amazing too that in 1902, Ciqawasose was 70 and his wife Louise S was 51, then the following year in 1903, he was 51 and she was 48. If you look in the census records on this site, you should be able to find them.
What I've found on Alfred Dion: He was born 11/16/1886 according to the WWI draft registration card. In 1909 he married Clara Lyman. In 1910 he was in the SD Penitentary in Sioux Falls and was listed as a Farmer. In 1914 he married Eunice Williams. He had a son Ward in 1915. In 1918 (WWI draft registration card, he was married and had 2 children and was living near White Swan, Charles Mix, SD. On the 1920 US census, he is listed as Divorced and the other census information has already been posted in this thread. On 1/17/1934 he married Lillian Fine Voice Crow, he is 46 and she is 27, both Indians from Lake Andes and were married by J H Wilson, Justice of the Peace, Lake Andes, SD.
I also have that Ward married Emily Nancy Irving in 1936 and then married Alma Chytka on December 19, 1936 by FH Hammitt, Justice of the Peace, Lake Andes.
I have just discovered a great book titled "Autobiography of Red Cloud: War Leader of the Oglalas" edited by R. Eli Paul. You may want to get a copy of this book. Apparently Red Cloud and Sam Deon were very close friends and Sam had a lot to do with this book. Anyway, from information I read in this book, Sam Deon was a trader and married an Oglala woman (who was a sister of Smoke, Red Cloud's uncle). He built a log house in LaPorte, 4 miles west of Fort Collins, CO in 1858 and it is a historic landmark today. I believe I finally found on paper this morning where Sam Deon had Isaac (Joseph Isaac).
On a 1870 US Census for Larimer County, Fort Collins Post Office, Colorado Territory, it lists Samuel "Dean", 44, Male, White, Saloon Keeper, from Canada; Mary Dean, 30, Female, Indian, Keeping house, from New Mexico (haven't seen this one before - other records say ND, CO, Canada); Louisa, 4, born in Wyoming; JOSEPH, 2, born in Colorado and Louis, 1 born in Colorado. I've been working on this for almost a year now and I've finally found what I believe to be the connection between Isaac and his dad, Sam Deon.
In another book titled "8th Landing: The Yankton Sioux meet Lewis and Clark", the author talks about "The Little Bronzed Angel" which was a publication by the St Paul's Indian Mission and it talked about Isaac Dion. States that "during the Indian wars he headquartered near Wounded Knee and traveled north and south. They burned up his wagon and four mules. Isaac was Pine Ridge Sioux, part Canadian French. One of his sons, Sam, drove a buggy with Father Westropp about 1913."
Joseph "Isaac" Dions date of death is 3/19/1950.
As far as the Williams side of things go (Hattie and her parents John and Jijiwin) I haven't found much either. Nothing on her mother other than her name and her date of death and it appears she had the 3 girls Sally, Frances and Hatty. The baptism record gives us his approximate date of birth and his parent's names. Just realized that on a 1900 US Census, Little Brave is listed in the White Swan district, age 67, born May 1833, other name: Ciqawasuse, Sioux, SD, Widow.
I would love to hear back if you find any information in Minnesota as I've also been wanting to make a trip over there. I've often wondered what the connection to Pipestone is as in 1899, Little Brave and Isaac Dion's names were on the list of Indians who agree to cede the Pipestone Reservation in MN (this document is also on this website) and on Hattie Dion's Report on Heirship, it states that under Personal Property, a $151.99 Pipestone Payment was deposited at the Security National Bank of Sioux Falls, SD.
Hope I didn't ramble on too much here - haven't been on the site for a couple of weeks as the weather broke and I've been outside getting the garden and orchard ready for the season. So nice to see someone else looking for some of the same relatives :-)

Carla, thanks so much on the info of Isaac dion, that you had found and posted, as I believe he may be my g.g.grandfather too. Posted on myg.g.g.g.grandmother's family tree Samuel Dion, is listed as being married to 1 of her daughters Mary Dion. Mary had a sister named Julia Dion St. Pierre, who is my g.grandmother, their mother's name was Susan Longfoot, from Yankton Reservation and her husband's name was Sihanhunska; No English name that I can find on him. Thanks again, if you find anymore I would really appreciate hearing it. bruledude04

Hi, There are Deon's who live in Pine Ridge. I wasn't sure this was the same family as the spelling was different. I think the Deon who was there went by the name Sonny but don't know if it was a nickname or actually his first name. He is passed on and I don't know if his wife or girls would have very much information. Since there is the connection to Red Cloud you may be able to request information through probates, etc. from the Oglala Sioux Tribe Census /Enrollment Office P.O. Box 2070 Pine Ridge S.D. 57770-2070 Phone: 605-867-1321 and Fax: 605-867-2901. The head of the office is: Joan Decker and I also have a Bernadine Blue Bird listed as well Please don't expect it soon as I haven't received the information I asked for well over a year ago. My cousin went there in July to get information about his Dad (my Uncle) who was deceased. He was told if your ancestor has passed there is limited information that you can receive due to privacy laws. Not trying to be funny or anything but at this point is there any point in privacy? I wasn't there so I'm not sure what happened and this was the first time he had ever dealt with Tibal Govt. and he found it very confusing. I welcomed him to the club. Good luck with you search and if you need phone #'s I can help you with that as I have a phone book from there.
