it took me til 3 thismorning to fit this "Tree" so to speak < together: chief Pretty boy(Hoksinawaste was the brother of Hejote(Forked tooth). The brothers shared the same wife: Oyatewayagemaniwin. Hoksinawaste and his spouse were the parents of: Hazawin, the w/o Joseph Picotte. Skuyawin, w/o of Maj/Jonathon Bean. Their offspring was William Bean(SR), aka Chief Blue Cloud. William married Louisa Dickson, daughter of William Dickson, and they had several children, including William Bean,Jr.,alma Bean and Susan Bean. Louisa was separated from William Bean, and married John Collins. They were parents of Jilia Collins, w/o Sam. wolfe, and Cora Collins, the w/o of one of the Thornton boys. Oyatewayagemaniwin was also maried to a third man(Unknown) and they had a daughterWikesinyata, thewife of Ikmusa. Chief Two lance I and his wife Iron Woman had thrree children: Two Hawks Two Lance II, Eagle woman. Eagle Woman was one of the wives of Honore Picotte. He separated from her and returned to his white wife Theresa , in St. Louis. But before he also been married to Two other women: Tawanaspaskewin Padianopapi, the daughter of Chief Strudk bythe Ree. Honore, Pauland Joseph were the children of Jean Baptiste Picotte and Helen Jarlais, of rivier DuLoup.

Herman1,
Can you tell me your source where you found a Louisa Dickson as the wife to William Bean Sr?
On my family tree, I have Mary, the granddaughter of Robert and Ellen Dickson, married to William Bean Sr. I have no Louisa as a Dickson child. At least she is not on the 1924 Dickson family tree.
I have been interested in the Picotte family because one of my grandmother's was a Picotte but she carried the name of her step-father though later she (Scar Arm) married a Traversie.
Charles, Scar Arm and two sisters (married names Ruelo/Rulo and Bedaud) received land via the unpopular 1858 Yankton treaty. They were the first and older sisters of Charles.
I can see that you were looking over the Picotte family tree. To clarify: Wicincana was not related to Hazawin or Wikosiyata (as stated on that family tree); therefore Hazawin could not be the daughter of Wousinawaste since he was the brother of Forked Tooth who was the father of Wicincana who was the wife of Paul Picotte.
As far as the Picotte line is concerned, I have a Susan Picotte (b. 1848) w/o Moises Vandall I cannot account for, nor suppose sons of Honore named Joseph and Honore/Henry and a Emily Picotte (1842)w/o H. J. Vandall.
Thank you, Justiceforall

Justiceforall: I ran across a biography of Major Jonathon Bean and his son William Bean when I did a search via google. the Catholic Church apparently laundered his biogrphy(william Bean's)andhad his wife and daughters dying. there is a the 1880 US Census for Chas.Mix,SD lists William Bean,Jr. living with his Step father John Collins, and his mother Louisa Collins nee Bean and 1/2 sisters Julia and Cora Collins william Bean Sr. remarried after he left Julia and his second wife was named Mary Itewastewin. Julia later married Samuel wolfe, and cora marred a Thonrton. Louisa's fther wasrobert colonel dickon, and her mother was Jotowin.

Herman1,
My mind is still a little cloudy since my mother's death a few weeks ago. Perhaps you can guide me a little more.
In the 1880 US census (Charles Mix Co.), I found: William Bean, head, 45 Unnamed Bean, wife, 40 born in SD Louise Bean, daughter, 9 Emily Bean, daughter, 4 Pretty Bean, newborn
In the 1880 US census (Bon Homme Co.): John Collins, head, 45 Louise Collins, wife, 40 born in MN Julia Collins, daughter, 16 Cora Collins, daughter, 1 Susan Beans, stepdaughter, 17 William Beans, stepson, 14 Alma Beans, stepdaughter, 10
In the 1896 Yankton census #833: William Bean Sr, 63 Mary Bean, wife, 54, born in SD Mary A. Bean, daughter, 17 William G. Bean, son 14
In the 1896 Yankton census #912: William Bean Jr., 30 Fannie A. Bean, wife, 28
In the 1900 US census (Charles Mix): William Bean, head, Jul 1833 Mary Bean, wife, May 1843 (Note: She said she had 2 out of 6 children living) Mary A. Bean, daughter, Aug 1879 William G. Bean, Jul 1882
In the 1900 US census (Charles Mix): William Bean, head, 43 (Note: father born in SD, mother born in IA) Fanny Bean, wife, 42 Wallace Bean, son, 11 Elise Bean, daughter, 9 Mable Bean, daughter, 6 Ellmer Bean, son, newborn
You say William Bean Sr. left Julia Collins and married Mary or did you mean Louisa? Do you have any other documents that can help me in my thought process? My Mary of 1924 might be Mary Louise or Louise Mary.
Thank you, Justiceforall

I apologize, I meant Louisa Collins. when I first searched for william Bean early last year, Ifound the biography at a web site for the blue grotto. Instead of printing it out, I copied the information down.
then a month or so ago I returned tothe same website and lo and behold, the biography had been "laundered" so tospeak. The only documentation I do have is that census Imentioned which confirmed what I hadfirst seen on that web site.the other confliciting information I saw was the name of hishis grandfather's wife, visiting Walking woman.Louisa dickson was thedaughter of robert Colonel dickson, acfording to the biography that was posted last year. The current version of her name is flying Arrow.
another discrepancy I found between the two stories is tha in theoriginal biography, wiooam was raised by his grandfather until he was a young boy, and then his father sent for him and had him taken to St. Louis where heattended school and lived there for a while. thus ther would have beennoreasonforhim to gosearching for his father, as he knew where he was..

Thank you, Justiceforall I found the following on Robert Dickson: He died June 20, 1923 at Drummonds Island. He married Totowin, sister of chief Red Thunder of the Cut Head Band of Yanktons. His daughter Louisa married William bean. Robert Dickson's permanent post was at the Eastern Shore of Lake Traverse. His third son William married an Ojibwa woman in Minnesota.(Tohill:14). The above census information boggles my mind. Now we have 3 William beans. Justice forall. I honestly don't know what to make of this.

I found oneof the references I thought to print out on the Internet: www.galafilm.com/1812/e/people/dickson.html which states that"... he was sober, literate, humane, and faithful to his Sioux wife."

Herman1,
I am real slow on getting this, so let me recap:
1. Mary Unknown 1840 (NE)- married: (Charles Collins/ Sacred Clown/ Heyokawakan) married: (John Collins) married: (Unknown Primeaux) 2. Charles Collins Jr. 2. Julia Collins & (Samuel Wolf) 3. Victoria Wolf 2. George Primeaux 2. Marguerite Primeaux 1882 (NE)- & (Louis B. Rhodd) 2. Thomas Primeaux
Julia's father is John Collins and she had a half-sister via Louisa Dickson-Collins named Cora who married a Thornton; plus, Mary Primeaux was not the wife of William Bean but another Mary/ Itewastewin was Bean's 2nd wife whose children were Louisa, Emily, Pretty, Unknown, Mary A. and William G. Bean.
And, Louisa Dickson's children are William Bean Jr., Susan Bean, Alma Bean, and Cora Collins.
Is that correct?
Thank you Herman1, Sara, and Big Jon.
Oh, and thank you Tamara for your kind words.

Oh, and thank you Tamara for your kind words. justicefor all: UIf I understand Sara's information she has a Mary primeau marrying Charles collins. they have a daughter Julia Collins. this Julia collins then marries Samuel Wolfe. According to the information that I posted earlier: Jonathon Bean marries skuyewin, d/ or chief Pretty Boy. Jonathon leaves her and goes to St. Louis Their son William Bean,Sr. is raised by his Uncle Hejota for several years, then is sent to St. Louis to be with his father and get an education. William returns to Yankton , marries his first wife, and they have several children. He and wife #! then separate, and he marries Mary Itewastewin . After she dies, he spends his last years living with the Picottes until his death . First wife Louisa dickson marries william bean, then they separate and she marries John Collins the childrenlisted onthe 1880 Census with John and Louisa are the step-children William Beans Jr., Mary, and Alma(who is feaf)Beans., and daughters Julia Collins and Cora Collins. Julia Collins then marries Samuel Wolf. Cora marries Thornton. Howecreek provided a piece to the puzzle: She wrote me that the records she obtained fronm the Ponca Tribe indicates that John Collins was the father of Julia Collins by another woman aka Primeau or Delodge. He took Julia with him to Charles Mix, and the rest of the family went on to Oklahoma. He married Louisa and she brought her children from the first spouse into the marriage, and they then have Cora Cora Collins. this makes more sense to me. what boggles my mind is that the Censuses that you have posted indicate that there are at least 2 persons naed William bean,(Jr). the ages of both seem to match as well. From that reference The 8th Landing: The Dakota sioux Meet Lewis and clark, I found that Cora Collins-thornton died in1941 and her children were taken to Marty SD, to the Orphanage or boarding School after her death.

Thank you Herman1,
To add a little more: On the 1896 Yankton census there are three William Beans.
William Bean Jr. is married to Fanny (age 30=b. 1886) and William G. Bean is with his parents (age 14=b. 1882) who are William and Mary Bean.
In the Holy Name Church register listed is the marriage of John Collins and Louisa Dixon. They were married on 15 Apr 1872.
Blessings to all, Justiceforall
