Big Jon: so far, I have found 2 womaen named Elizabeth Renville: the first was the daughter ofjean-Baptiste Renville. she was born1909 and died bet. 1920-1935 the second was born bet. 1845-1870 and she was the daughter of victor Renville. Renville, Joseph. The half-Sioux son of a French fur-trader, born at Kaposia (St Paul), Minn., in 1779. His early childhood was passed in the tipi of his mother, but when about 10 years of age he was taken by his father to Canada and placed under the care of a Catholic priest, from whom he received knowledge of the French language. He came into prominence as a guide to Lieut. Z. M. Pike in 1805, and entered the service of the British in the War of 1812,as interpreter to the Sioux, with the rank of captain. He was present at Ft Meigs and Ft Stephenson, Ohio, and the good conduct of the Indians there was clue largely to his influence. He went to the great council at Portage des Sioux (mouth of the Missouri) in 1815 as interpreter, and resigned his British commission and half pay to attach himself thenceforth to the American interest. He organized the Columbia Fur Co., with headquarters on Lake Traverse, Minn., and, calling to his assistance many of the bold characters released front other service by the consolidation of the Hudson's Bay and N. W. Fur Cos., was able to meet the American Fur Co. on its own grounds with a competition so strong that the latter was glad to make terms and place the Columbia Co.'s men in charge of its Upper Missouri outfit. At the time of the consolidation Renville established an independent business at Lac qui Parle which he conducted until his death. In 1834 he met Dr. T. S. Williamson, the famous missionary, at Prairie do Chien, out on his first reconnaissance, and arranged with him to go to Lac qui Parle and establish a mission the next year. Williamson returned to Ohio for his family, and the next spring met Renville at Ft Snelling, whence he proceeded to Lac qui Parle, which became the scene of most of his long service with the Sioux. They were soon after joined by Dr S. R. Riggs, and engaged, with Renville's assistance, in the translation of the Scriptures. Renville translated every word of the Bible into the Dakota language, and the missionaries faithfully recorded it; he also rendered them invaluable assistance in the construction of the grammar and dictionary of the Dakota language. In 1841 Renville was chosen and ordained a ruling elder, discharging the duties of his office until his death at Lac qui Parle in Mar. 1846. Many descendants still reside among the Sisseton Sioux in South Dakota.
And I'm sure there is more than one Joseph Renville. vmarier

Hello-
I have just registered for this forum and I am new to this venue. Please help me if you can. I am looking for information about Susan Renville who I understand to be the daughter of Gabriel Renville. I have information that she was married to Henry A. Quinn. I have information about their son, George Quinn and his descendants. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I need to post this somewhere else.
sincerely

You will need to register at that website and give yourself a user name and password so you can access the site in the future. it is free. i am interested in the information you have on Henry A. Quinn and George Quinn. I do know she had 4 children with him and that she married him, but that is all I have, re. Henry, and I havon Henry, and nothing re. George Quinn. Any information you would be wiling to share re. these two individuals.Henry and George with us is very much appreciated.

Hello--
I believe I checked (some time ago) on the family search website and didn't learn much. I have a fair amount of information on George and all of his descendants. I also have old sketches of George and his mother Susan. I will reply soon with more information. I am married to a direct des. of George and we would like to document the Gabriel-Susan-George connection for the entire family. Obviously anything about the Quinns would fit into this as well. What is your interest in the Renvilles?

To Jon
If I have it correctly, this is what I know about the Quinns and Renvilles: Gabriel Renville 1825-1892 married Anna in 1858 or 1862. They had at least three children, one of them Susan. Susan married Henry A. and had four children: Tom, George, Issac and and Louisa. George Lewis married Irene Sherbonda and had six children. George died in 1956 in St. Paul, MN. George is my wife's great grandfather. I have George Lewis and his lineage well documented, but I would like to find out more about George's father, Henry. I have some handwritten information that shows that Henry A. had three wifes. This also states that he died on Feb. 26, 1909. He had at least one brother.
In a nutshell, I know about the lineage down to Gabriel based on published accounts, etc. I know everything from George Lewis on down. What I am lacking is information about Gabriel and his marriage to Anna, his daughter Susan (where is she buried for example and when did she die) and information on her husband Henry A. Quinn. In particular I would like to know if he was related to Peter Quinn who was an interpreter during the uprising of 1862 and killed at the Redwood Ferry.
I checked ancestry.com and nothing there really seemed to help. I would be very appreciative of any help or direction you could give me.
sincerely

I am helping a family that is related to Henry A. Quinn, and George Quinn. IIn order to do a search for these gentlemen, i need some vital data such as DOB, DOD, placeof birth, and place of death, who they married and when . Here on this web site we help people like you who are seeking information and/or where to go to find the documentation you need. At the same time we hope that the people we help would help others who may be searching for information they have on their ancestors. You asked for information on Susan Renville, and www.familyserch.org gives her date of birth, names of her parents and who her siblings were. You were not specific on what type of information you were seeking about Susan. i believe that peacekeeper may be able to help you with baptismal records, re. Susan. Is this the George that was related to the thomas Williams who married Julia thomas?

Hi Hermin I
George Lewis Quinn was born feb 22, 1887 and died at the age of 69 on Oct. 7, 1956. I don't believe he was related to a Thomas Williams who married julia Thomas.

dont know how this in the current puzzle but I am going to throw it out there!
Aug 19, 1916 Sisseton Agency
Estate of Kinajinwin, or Louise Antoine
It appears fromteh evidence adduced at the hearing that the decendent Kinajinwin, or Louise Antoine sisseton wahpteton allottee no 936 died may 29 1911 at the age of 41.
It further appears taht the decedent was married to Peter Wasin or Peterson by ceremony, before the first allottment on the Sisseton Reservation and was seperated from him in accordance with the indian custom before allotment. about the year 1887 she was married to Icasnamani, or Paul Antoine, according to Indian custom, and lived with him until his death, Febreuary 9, 1893. About he year 1894 she began to live with Itecankiyana (yena) or George Quinn, a Kickapoo indian without ceremonial marriage, and seperated from him in the spring of 1896, without securing a formal divorce as far as known. about 1896 she commmenced to live with Samuel Wakinyanhanska or Samuel White, and was living with him at the time of his death February 18, 1901.
It further appears from the evidence that George Quinn was an indian that spent most of his life on the road visiting most of the Indian Reservations in the United States and Canada and that on June 2, 1906 he was married by ceremony to a white woman named Jenni Omalley, in St Paul.....

Hello to Hermin I
the George and Henry you are referencing must be different than the ones I am researching. Hopefully I can find out more. I have a copy of the George Lewis Quinn death certificate amongst many other documents, so I know he is clearly not the same one you are researching. This obvioulsly doesn't preclude the fact that they may be related. In reference to Susan Renville, there must be more information on her somewhere.

Hello to Tamara-- I am quite sure we are talking about different George Quinns. i am sure too, lol. but put it out there as it is a Quinn who will show up in the Sisseton Records. some wise persons are showing me its equally important to eliminate as well as confirm. funny how I have known that but not in the manner as I am learning now (speaking about my own family). It is such a valuable lesson in trying to determine the location of a person that I really ought to share it... that if you cant determine where someone is, to determine where they are NOT. I am finding using that perspective is bringing so many things to light that I am greatly impressed.

Hellow to Tamara--
thank you for all your suggestions; I noticed in another posting that you can view the Sisseton census of 1887. Is there a way for me to check that census at a location online or in or near St. Paul, MN? Maybe information about Susan Renville or Henry Quinn might show up.
