What Philbricks do you have in your line. I have a few, Clinton and Elizabeth Philbrick.

Is their names all that you have to provide ? what about some dates, and possibly some names of their relatives?

On the Crow Creek Census 1886 and 1887, there is a Bluestone and One they depend on listed together, then in about 1888 one they depend on is on DK How's list of family and is a grandson. I believe Rebecca and her son Gilbert Philbrick maybe the same people. I am wondering where the connection is between them? Thanks, Karen

This could well be as Rebecca did marry a Bluestone but did not have any children from him

Re. those censuses youmention, that is a good starting point to do your search, I think. If you have access to a Family History Center(Mormon church) and/or your public library, you can get free access to Ancestry.com and do a search using the names and corresponding ages(to calculate @when they were born) to plug into the Ancestry.com search engine. You should also see if you canget a probate on them at the Crow Creek BIA office. also check with your hubby and get what information he has on his family and slo go from there.

I have checked the ancestry and probates but I have not found the connection. The dates match with Rebecca and Gilbert.I am thinking the connection is the Philbricks. I checked the familysearch and found the tree and etc. I have been checking down at Fort Thompson/realty.

DK Howe's daughter Sophie was married to William Walker, the philbricks come in under DK How's list of family on the 1988 Crow Creek Census. I don't know how Rebecca is related to DK How. I am researching all of the How family.. thanks

Rebecca was married to Adam Elk/bluestone. His father was a Bluestone. They did not have any children. She was his last wife before he died. He had 4 wifes prior to her.

I hope this isn't a stupid question but like people always say the only stupid questions are the ones that are not asked. Asking questions is the only way to learn about different things. Any way, how did the Sisseton-Wahpeton Walker families get their English name Walker? Did Simon Anawangmani's family descendants name later become Walker after it was shortened to Mani. Curiosity has been getting the best of me lately.

I have been wondering the same thing. i learned that some of them took their surnames from their Metis(French), or Dutch, or english, or fathers. Then one of the Eastmans, I believe it was Charles Eastman , that was hired by the BIA to assign English names to the Siouxs, around 1903. He worked on the project for 6 years. the reason given, was that they needed english names to become american Citizens.

isabella Hopkins married thomas Walker and supposedly he died. then she married Robert Philbrick and had a son Joseph Philbrick, who passed himself off as Joseph Walker. I also have that thomas did not die, but left her and went back to Minnesota, where he took up with Sophia Moose.
