Hi, just checking to see if anyone found any information on DK Howe, Sophie How/Walker who was married to William Walker. DK How's father was Bone Necklace. Does anyone have info on Bone Necklace. Who was his father? I heard it was "Wounded." Help!!! According to what I read here may be the reason she has not responded, you have to be kinda more specific in dates, times, city or towns and things like that. I did have a form that I was using on here, but it went buggy on us.

The database here does not show any Bone Necklace in the search...how many other people do have that are listed as being relatives to Bone Necklace?

Great job, Denny!
It wouldnt have occurred to me that Oscar Howe's genealogy would give the DK Howe (Dont Know How) information.
I love the transistion of this name... much better than an ancestor I have seen go from To to Mrs Toe!

Denny: I echo theothers on your prowess with searches. I found a little bit of information on a chief bone Necklace, who was a chief of the Hunkpati Dacotah Sioux Tribe. He was captured by the US Calvary along the east sideof the Missouri River. He and his band were relocated to the Crow Creek Indian Reservation. Tthe ref. doesn't give any dates or places, unfortunately. He had a son named White ghost who took over as Chief of the Hunkpati Dacotahs after Bone Necklace died. I don't know if this is your Bone Necklace or not.

Hi All. I'm posting here for the first time. I've been helping a friend research her ancestors. Lorraine's grandfather was William Carpenter. His Mother was Lucy Carpenter and father was Charles Carpenter Rendeau. William married his third wife, Mary Wickam, in 1890 at Crow Creek. Mary's mother was Mary LaBeau, from Cheyenne Eagle Butte area. Mary LaBeau's second husband was D.K.How. D.K. How was the step father and helped raise Mary Wickem. He gave her land on Brule Bottom on the Missouri River along with his daughter Zewie (how died young). The land was in Buffalo Co on the reservation, but is now ibn Brule Co. when the lines for reservation moved to the North. D.K. and Mary LaBeau were married sometime around 1876 and lived at Crow Creek. He ran a prosperious trading store at one time. His father was BONE NECKLACE who had a camp up north of pierre around 1862 (he helped along with D.K. HOWE, when the FOOL SOLDIERS rescued the captured women and childen around 1863. D.K.s brothers were Wizi, White Ghost, Mark Dog Back and possibly Thomas Fast Walker. I haven't found out where Bone Necklace was buried or much more about him than what has been already listed regarding him signing treaties. Hope this has been of some help. DonnaKentch

i tried several times to find some information on Struck By the ree and all I could find was photos of him,and a bried biography of him, but nothing about his family. I understand your frustration. I did find a little on Claywalker, and I am not sure but it may be in the archives section of our website.

Karen. We always get confused and break up laughing when trying to talk of all the Mary's in the carpenter line...William Carpenters first wife was Edna (Ella) the only non Mary. Second wife was Mary LeClair, third wife was Mary Wickam. Mary Wickam's mother was Mary LaBeau (that was her name no connection the Mary Crow. Mary LaBeau was from up around Cheyenne Eagle Butte. When Mary's first husband Lee Wickam left she after a few years married D.K. How, first Indian marriage, then later in the Episcopal church at Crow Creek. He raised Mary Wickam.....Also Sophie Walker was the daughter of D.K. How and his wife Sarah Voice Hoop. Sophia married William Walker. Bone Necklace was D.K. How's father.
I'm just learning about Claywalker. I was at Lower Brule all day and ran into Louie LaRoche, and he was asking if I knew anything about Clay walker as he was related through Vera St. Pierre LaRoche, Sophia Dewitt St.Pierre, Louis DeWitt to Claywalker who married to Joe Veaux.(that's how I wrote it in my notebook) He also spoke of hearing about Struck by the Ree. Told him I'd check it out. He also said that Mary Little Elk Thompson was another daughter of Claywalker. Hope some of this helps. Donna
