My grt. grandfather's name was Sutahedan or Sutahena does anyone know what this means? His daughter Bessie Goodvoice (my grandmother) death certificate lists an english name of Jacob Stronghold as her father and according to his probate it doesn't provide a english name. I'm trying to find documentation with both names. Now after reviewing the topic: sisseton 1877 or 1878 I noticed a Sutahedan on the list and Steadfast beside it. Is this the translation? He died in South Dakota in 1889 at the age of 38 and was married to Sophia or Sophie Iyarpeyewin by indian custom. Does anyone know what her last name means or have any info. on either of them?
Cekpawin(Twin woman) was Sutahedan's mother. His father was Sihahanska the Indian Scout. You should go to the document exchange section and get a copy of her probate from whomever has it Sutahedan and his wife(her name is not meniotioned in Cekpawin's probate) had 4 children: Bessie Goodvoice-Shepherd, Louisa Greeley, Samuel Goodvoice, and John Goodvoice. Sutahedan's wife died in 1911. I believe Steadfast is the translation for his Indian Name on that census you mention. I am not good with Indian name translations. You should ask Wazi. she is a real pro.

Hello I know there is a copy of this book at the La Qui Parle Historical Society in Madison Minnesota. They charge 10.00 per hour to research there and 25 cents a copy so I only got a copy of the index. Was low on funds. Never did make it back to read it or get more copys of the pages.
