swootz: that 1909 sounds like the one that was on those microfilms I and a the person i was helping , went through. I believe it is typewritten, and also lists their descendants and the amount of the annuity or whatever. At the time I didn't think to have him printooff the whole listing. He just brought me two sheets from it that contained thenames ofhis ancestors. I am still kicking myself for this oversight.

Hello, There are Poor Boy's who live in Pine Ridge also. I seem to recall an Enos Poor Bear from there.

For those of you out there still searching for a connection to our Dakota roots from the tragic times in Minnesota in the early 1860's, do not give up if you cannot find a substanative link to names on the 1886 census.....the acts of Congress that followed the 1885 act are informative as to the intent of congress not to restrict rightful heirs, lineal descendants or beneficiaries, strictly to the 1886 census (or its supplement in 1889). The scouts lists that followed, especially in 1891-92 include many Mdewakanton peoples, who for whatever reason, were not able to be actually listed on the 1886 or 1889 census. And yet, these peoples were loyal Mdewakantons just the same and deserved every right as lineal descendants as anyone who traces directly to a name or names on the 1886 or 1889 census lists. Remember the history of the times....the turmoil, the tragedy, the ill repute of the whites toward all Indians, and the genuine fear of all the Dakota during those times that resulted in the forced and involuntary disbursements of our peoples away from the murderous atmosphere that existed at the time. Geneology never ends. Your searches should never end. Keep it up for the sake of us all and our future generations.

thanks, but I am only trying to get the truthful messege out there that we all need to connect with each other and to maintain our connections. There are forces at work that are using the natural defense of the ages against our peoples......to divide us by means of jealousy, greed, deception and untruthfulness. We need not help them in their endeavors. If all of those that are true in their hearts to seek the truth of who we truly are, continue to ask and seek out the true answers to our heritage, will continue to persevere in the face of adversity, then we can serve our anscestors and our young ones, nobily and with honor. We need to unite in our efforts however, and not fractionate, for that is the weakness that those that want us to all fail are banking on. If those amongst us that have already been given a green light in the sense of being a known part of this historical litigation, should now forsake those that still seek the truth of our individual anscestors, then that is counter productive for the overall good of the people and the truly needing that so much require all of our attention and caring in this process. For the longest time, the majority society has looked down on our peoples because they always count on us to fragment and seek out our own individual goals rather than the goals of the greater good for all of us. By recognizing that long held sterotype and by confronting it headon, we can make a unified statement that can and will be heard through the ages amongst not just those that are living, but also those that have passed before us, that are looking upon us now and will help us if we truly reach out for their invisible yet hopeful and loving guidance. To help each other in our endeavors to discovver the true facts of all of our individual lineages, will help each one of us on our own individual path of doing what is right in the eyes of those that matter the most......our anscestors, our God, our families, our friends, our colleagues, but most of all, our selves, when we each look into the mirror and see the tragedy, betrayal, sadness, despair, poverty, deprivation and division that has gone in the past as recorded in the recent histories of our people. If we all look at our selves as someone who does, can and will need the help of another human in our lives, we can visualize our own individual situations and those of the less affluent or capable that may be denied the fruits of each of our own research and discovery. We need to each pay our individual successes in this endeavor, forward, to those that need our help. I, by admission, am an idealist. But that will never stop me from trying to convert others to the point of view where you can see beyond the tip of your own nose or your own front door. There are many of our people that need our help in this endeavor now and next month will be too late for them, theoretically. If Custer truly died for our sins, then the time has come for us all to recognize that there was a reason for Custer....and that we can make a positive out of the long list of negatives that the majority of our people have been dealt over the years. Help each other and feel the good effect it can have on allowing others to feel connected to the discovery of who we all are, and how we all are so connected on so many levels. thanks.
