Hello I know of High Bears in Yankton census and theres a High Bear in Dewey county 1900 censu. But my grandmother had a sister who married a Paul High Bear but his name is Paul Blue Earth he took the name of High Bear out of respect for the Family he was living with at the time. Hope this helps

thanks, scararm. do you mean that Paul High Bear is not High Bear's blood son? i had that he was HB's son by a woman other than Lucy Carpenter. if you have any info on that i would appreciate it.

My family in Eagle Butte have that information they told me his mother was a blue earth women and he lived with the High Bears so he took the name they have it on some papers and in 1930 Census he is listed with the Name Paul Blue Earth he was married to my grandmas half sister Louise Grey Bear and her father was Solomon Grey Bear my Grandma was Julia Grey Bear her mom was Mary Louise Laundreax or Landry and Louise Grey Bear mom was Jennie/Nellie Charger daughter of Martin Charger son of Wanata. I will ask them to mail the information to me and i will let you know when i get it. If you have any info on the people i listed it would be nice also Solomon Grey Bear Father is listed as Red Star/Fat walks and mother listed as moves her.

Also this paul High Bear is listed in a censu in 1920 Dewey county censu south dakota in the household of a Baptist spotted rabbit and he is listed as grandson with Louise listed as his wife and my grandma julia is listed with them and she is listed as niece. This Baptist is listed as the Head of House hold.

Is there any information on the Paul High Bear he was married to Amy? Both lived in Eagle Butte, SD? They do have a son living.

Paul High Bear was married to an amy and they have a son named Paul High Bear . Paul High Bear was married more then one time I had a sister in law who was one of Pauls daughters from amy i will ask her about her mothers side and I have a great- Aunt who was one of Paul High Bears daughters she is much older he had like two or three wives and his children range in ages from 70 for the older ones and 30 for the younger children

Hello Linda I got a probate on Paul High Bear but they sent me Paul Jr. papers. Paul Sr.is listed as father and mother Lousie Gray Bear. Paul Sr. was still living when Jr died on 1-9-85 and his mother 1982. I know Paul Sr. did marriy a women named amy after he divorced Louise still looking for info on her. He received intrest in land from cheyenne river by John Split and standing rock by the names of Pejutasapawin and Afraid of His Plume I hope this helps. Remember Paul Sr. they said his mother was a Blue Earth and I remember reading about Chief Blue Earth (Mankato) The one the towns named after so check at there local history center they might have some information on him and his family.  |

Scararm, is there any of those High Bear's on the list that were approved yet? I need some help figuring this out, The girls grandfather was Paul High Bear he just passed away and Amy who also just passed away. So it would have been Paul Sr. right? Paul Jr. must have been there fathers brother. Anything you have is very welcomed. Thanks, L |

Paul High Bear Jr. s,wife was Aldena L Garreau , this was his only marriage and she just passed away like two or three months ago, two children were born of this marriage : Janice E High Bear /Mandan and Jo Hannah High Bear /Spotted Bear. Paul High BEAR ,Sr., was married to Louise Gray Bear and had about seven kidsand these kids are all in thier 70's and 60's. He divorced Louise and married a woman named Amy Garter and had about 7 or eight more kids with her and these kids are in thier 30's and 40's. Paul High Bear Sr. Father was Valentine Blue Earth. I call my cousin and she gave me this info just then some people she was having a meeting with came so she going to call me back to night. So i hope this gives you some more help. II would sure appreciate any info you have espically about the High Bears on the list you were talking about. Scar Arm  |
