Herman ~ I have a death certificate for Rev. Solomon Tukansaiciye. It lists Cloudman and Mniyodutawin as his parents. This Cloudman (as there are 2 of them) is the son of Old Eve and is usually listed as Wahpeton, although he is part Mdewakanton. I found Mniyodutawin on the 1903 Yankton census but that is not the right one because the ages don't match. Solomon was born in 1822 so I am guessing that Mniyodutawin was born in the early 1800s. Any help would be appreciated ~ Hawkgirl

I am very intersted in Reverend Solomon Tunkansaiciye. His brothers Cantemaza (Iron Heart) and Cetanmaza (Iron Hawk) are enrolled here at Spirit Lake (Devils Lake). There father Mahpiyawicasta was a Wahpeton and killed by the Arikara in 1863 when he and another son (forgot his name now) were with Little Crow asking for help from the Arikara. Any help on this would be appreciated. Later, Louie

Hi Louie,
My ggg-grandmother was Solomon's sister. Her name was Mahpiyakoyakewin. Their other siblings are Cantemaza (Iron Heart), Lot Itojanjan (Light Face), Giiciye (Paints Himself Brown). This Cloudman is also the father of Solomon Two Stars and Amos Ecetukiya (He Who Brings What He Wants). There is also a girl named Great Banner Woman (Tawapahatanka) who was married to Running Walker. Running Walker was the father-in-law to Little Crow. What information do you have about any of these people? ~Thanks ~ Hawkgirl

Cetanwinyan: You are absolutely correct as to the names. Yes, Giiciye was the one killed with his father. he has another eagle name. I wrote too fast and said that Ironheart was enrolled here, he was enrolled at Sisseton. Ecetukiya I translate as The Accomplisher, AKA Big Amos from Iyakaptapi. Ironhearts and IronHawks live here at Spirit Lake. Miniohdasin (peeks in the water?) is the term here for mirror. I suppose there are other terms. Louis_Garcia@littlehoop.edu email me for more on Ironheart etc.

Ok, can anyone out there tell me the difference between the two Cloudmen(Calhon vs. Wahpeton)? I know that Hawkgirl is related to the Wahpeton one, as she and I have spoken extensively a few weeks ago. However, our family is related to the Calhoun one that had David Weston(Owancanduta) as his youngest son. His Mother was supposedly Old Eve as well. I do have the Woolworth files on Old Eve coming from the MnHS. I will share as soon as they arrive. I will be in Pierre researching Thursday and Friday of this week! Many thanks Sunshine

Cetanwinyan: The Arikara Village was probably Like-a-Fish-Hook. McLean County, just south of Emmet, ND on the Missouri River. Toksta, Louie

[ By nncy58 at 2007-11-14 This is picture of Chief Cloudman's family. Would anyone have an idea of what year it was taken? Lazarus Skyman would be a brother I believe to our ggggranfather Moses Skyman who is father to Jennie Skyman who was married to Thomas Quinn.

I just looked on Wikipedia and it says Lac Qui Parle County was founded on March 6 1871 so the picture must have been taken 40 years later in 1911. Have another question though. What was the purpose of the picture. I mean why this certain group of people? Was there some kind of family get-together or some event going on since so many people in the grandstand in background?

I am very interested in this picture. Can you tell me where you got it? It looks like it came from a book. What information do you have about Moses Skyman? Thanks ~ Hawkgirl

The picture is from the book 'Ehanna Woyakapi' History and Culture of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. I am not sure where to get it since my aunt had bought this one from the Sisseton College. I think the picture originally came from the MN Historical Society.
I have the probate for Moses Skyman and possibly a death certificate(not certified) from Minnesota that says his father is Cloud Man. Also probate of his daughter Jennie Quinn(Totowin) and a story about Jennie's wedding day that says Moses and Sarah lived near the Brown Earth settlement.

I should add That Moses Skyman lived at Brown Earth around 1880 when Jennie was married but by 1900 they were living in Yellow Medicine County in Minnesota.

Logic would tell me that to find out the year of this photo, would be to go to the lacQuiParle GenWeb and find out when the county was formed.
