Hi Lavanah, What a awesome picture. I have never seen this before, what was your source? My Dad is Yankton Sioux. We were all just back there in S.D. a couple of weeks ago. The powwow at Ft. Randall is great. I have been looking into our history and family tree. My last name is Ree, I grew up with stories of a link to Chief Struckbytheree. I have not figured that out yet. Thanks for your source when you get a chance. I look forward to hearing from you. Lisa

Dear Lisa,
Unfortunately, I don't have the link to this photograph but the photographer was S.J. Morrow. I too, was surprised to find this picture for I had not seen this one before and to have a picture of Canoin/Canowin was a great find. His family is a hard one to try and piece together unlike War Eagle's and I have been working on it for about 2 years.
I would be interested in what you have come up with so far in your search for the Ree family and which Ree's you are connected to.

The picture was titled Struck by the Ree and wife. I wish I could remember were on the net I found it. I just listed the photographer, S J Morrow. You could probably google and find it. I have two ICS that list Canoin with SBTR as wife in '86 and '87 on the Yankton census. He dies in '88. She is listed on the Yankton ICS for the years 90, 93, and 94, after that she no longer appears.
I wish I could help more. Who or what has her listed as mother to Mary Pretty Feathers? References are always useful.
