I am related to the DuCharme family by marriage. Through Cuthbert's son, Frank Walter Ducharme. He married Alvina Margaret Turgeon, she was the daughter of Abraham Benjamin Turgeon and Margaret Langdeau. I don't know anything about the LeCompte family, but tell me more about Alexander Laundreaux. I am descended from the Langdeau family, but the name is often spelled Landeaux. Very similar names.

From: ""The Epic of Papineau's Domain," by Adeline S. Gnirk, at the request of the Geddes Historical Restoration Society and Lake Andes. Published 1986 by the Plains Printing Company, Gregory, South Dakota, page 25.
Cuthbert and Theresa DuCharme and her two small sons, Patrick and Baptiste, settled in their new home near Papineau Springs, slightly northeast of Papineau's Trading Post and Store, and County Seat office. Their first child, Louise was born to them November 21, 1863, followed in their time by John, Frank, Charles, Harriet and Margaret. Cuthbert employed a Negro mammy, Eliza, to assist Theresa with the housework and children. When their children were older and some married, Theresa and Mammy Elisa raised her grandson, Walter George Cummings. His mother, Margaret DuCharme Cummings died in 1891 when she was 24 years old. It was said that the Negro mammy milked the cow they kept, anytime that Walter was hungry, and fed him warm milk. Eliza, the Negro mammy died in 1888; she was 56 years old. In 1873 Colin LaMonte set up a school for non-reservation children on Papineau Flats which was called the Papineau Schoolhouse. The Catholic children attended, also the St. Anne Mission on Campbell Creek the two years that it was open. Cuthbert, with the help of his sons, farmed and raised cattle as well as operating the trading post, store and tavern. In 1855 Cuthbert sold his trading post to the Exons. His land became public domain when Wheeler was made the county seat. His land, which ranged up toward Geddes became the farms of many individuals. The Ducharme Regime in Papineau's domain came to an end. Mr. and Mrs. Cuthbert Ducharme and family departed Papinaville in 1885 and moved to a site on Ponca Creek in Gregory County which was known as the Naper Trading Post near Milk's Camp. The family settled in a log cabin combination living quarters and store. Their son, Frank Walter, worked in the store for his parents until he went on his own, married, and opened a saloon and pool hall in Burke, South Dakota in 1904. Theresa LaCompte (Dubray-McKenzie) Ducharme died of diabetes and dropsy in 1900 when she was 57 years old. At her death she weighed over 300 pounds. A casket was made especially to fit her body and was hauled to the cemetery in a bobsled. Since there was no snow, it required several teams of horses to pull the casket to Theresa Ducharme's last resting place. Cuthbert Ducharme's hard frontier life, and insane temper coupled with his heavy consumption of whiskey, caused him a mental and physical breakdown. He was admitted to the Yankton Mental Hospital at Yankton, South Dakota on June 11, 1894 and lived there periodically until his death, January 12, 1903. He was 76 years old. His brother, Charles Ducharme, had founded the notorious "Primrose" or "Harney" on the Missouri River, by or across the river from Fort Whetstone and Agency. Cuthbert and Theresa Ducharme were the parents of six children: Louise born November 21, 1863, married George M. Cummings and they had four children; Walter, Henry, Agnes and Eleanor. John did not marry. Frank Walter (1870-1935) married Alvina Turgeon and they adopted a daughter, Viola. Alvina Turgeon was the daughter of Abraham and Margaret (Landeaux) Turgeon Sr. Abraham Turgeon and Maurice Langdeau (Landeaux) are buried in the Ducharme Cemetery (Papineau). Viola Ducharme married Reuben Horst of Herrick, South Dakota and they had eight children: Donna, Paul Nettie, Larry, Darrel, Carlene, Michael and David. Charles married Mary Louise Landreau and they had three children: Martin, Cora and Charles. Harriet, born April 7, 1869, died when she was 26 years old, 1907, in Wheeler, South Dakota. She was married to James Matthew Biggins Sr. and they had four children: Arthur, James M. Jr., Bertha (Birdie Penne) and Katherine (Magill). Margaret (1867-1891) known as Maggie was 24 years old when she died. She married Overset and they had one daughter, Catherine. Her second marriage was to Patrick Cummings and they had two children: Walter George and Carrie (deceased at birth). Walter George was raised by his grandparents, Cuthbert and Theresa Ducharme.

I don't really know much else about the DuCharme family. It doesn't look like your Laundreaux family is related to my Langdeau family. I don't recognize any of the names.

Thanks so much for your reply:) Frank's Brother, Charles (Charlie) DuCharme is whom I descend from. Do you happen to have any photos of Charlie? Supposedly, Joseph LeCompte was Frank & Charlie's Grandfather (Joseph LeCompte married Brings Grass Woman, and their daughter, Therese Latina (Ziziwin/Yellow eye woman) LeCompte b.1832 married Cuthbert "Papineau" DuCharme in 1862) . Two of Cuthbert & Therese's children were Frank & Charlie both born sometime between 1868-1872. Have you ever found any baptism, heirship etc., records for Cuthbert or for his son Frank? I have Charlie's heirship papers and I also have his wife Mary Louise Laundreaux's heirship papers. Charlie & Mary Louise are from whom I descend. I have no baptism records for either of them, and I have no school records for Charlie or Frank. Supposedly, Alexander (Alex) Laundreaux b.1825-1835?, married (in 1868?) a woman name Cante b.1847?, and they had two children; George (b.1866-1870?) & Mary Louise (b.1870-1872?). Cante died (in 1875?), and Alex married (in 1875-1879?) a women named Mollie/Mary b.1850-1862? also called Little Mollie (she may have had a French father herself). Alex & Mollie Laundreaux supposedly had 9 or 10 children together. Alex was much older than Mollie, he died in 1916, Mollie died in 1952. Is any of this sounding familiar? The laundreaux's, LeComptes, & DuCharme's are mainly enrolled through Cheyenne River. Although, I *think* that Frank DuCharme was enrolled through Rosebud. I am wondering where/how I can locate baptism, marriage, cemetery records, etc., to confirm some of this info. I do have a lot of Federal and Indian Census, etc., records (relating particularly to Cheyenne River), to share, but unfortunately, with these, the more I found, the more questions I had, LOL Any advice? Colette I am related to the DuCharme family by marriage.
