TRUDELL FAMILY REUNION
MAY 25, 26, 27, 28, 2007
Hey family, sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you. Following are my suggestions for the up coming family reunion. Your input and suggestions are encouraged and welcomed.
Family is welcome to arrive as early as Friday May 25, 2007 - The Santee Community hall will be open all day. There are showers, bathrooms and a kitchen there. Family is welcome to stay there and spend the nights there. So bring your own cots and bedding if you plan to stay there.
There will be a sign in book through throughout the reunion for family to sign in and submit their picture and/or their family picture/s. So bring your family tree chart, pictures, photo albums, stories, cameras, videos, etc. to share with your relatives.
I will have a computer there for printing family pictures. Please bring your own photo paper, CD's etc. That I can print data and pictures for you.
There is a Motel in Niobrara and a State park that has cabins, hook up for RV, camping area, showers. Yankton is 40 miles away that has more motels and hotels. I can obtain phone numbers if people let me know where they would like to stay. I will have maps available that will show mark family residents, cemeteries, and other important sights. I will have lawn mowers and things available for family members to clean up graves, etc.
During the reunion, many of us will be camping at the Santee Sundance area which is 17 miles from Santee. During this time those who have prepared will be able to go on their vision quest. Family and relatives who are interested in learning more about your Indian Culture are welcome to come and observe and/or participate. There will be daily sweats for those interested in participating. One major rule is no female can be at or near the ceremonial area just during their menstrual cycle. There is camping, water and out houses at the ceremonial area.
Saturday May 26, 2006 - More Family should be pulling in, I suggest we have a pot luck meals everyday, unless someone has another suggestion. Other idea is families can offer to provide a particular meal on a particular day.
The traditional way that I learned from grandmother Mercedes (Trudell) Denny was to make fruit/candy baskets for their family members and we can have a group family gathering and ceremony so everyone can set their baskets, flags, flowers on their loved ones graves. We need to decide if we want to do this on Sunday or Monday. I'm open to ideas.
There's a near by town call Verdigree that houses the Catholic Churches records for Santee if you want to travel there to look at the registry. I need to know in advance so I can let the Church know so we can get a day and time to go do that. There is no Catholic Church in Santee.
There's the Brazile Creek Church which I think is Congregational, if you want to attend Church on Sunday. I will find out the time.
Please share what other denominations people are so we can get you the information so you can attend your church of choice on Sunday if you so desire.
I will provide a map of the Yankton Reservation area map with cemeteries where other Trudell family members have lived and are buried.
Those who are interested should come early and you can go to Center, Neb on Friday and look at the Knox County records for information on marriages, deaths, probates, land descriptions, etc. It will not be open on the weekend or Monday due to the holiday.
Those who like to fish, we have great water recreation area and you can bring your fishing poles and gear. Those who want to can do so every day, anytime.
So please let me know your suggestions. My contact information is 1-605-365-6864 cell phone.
