My mother in law has Chapmans and LaCroix's in her family.
Her grandmother Alice Walker married a Chapman and a Lacroix I think she said.
Bushman Chapman is related. He was like 107 when he passed away at Santee, he is buried at Howe Creek Cemetary along with some other Chapmans. I will look and see what I can find, maybe someone else on hear knows a little too. Sara

My mother in laws brother use to mow the grass at the Howe Creek cemetary. He said he would be there all day. He always got goose bumps around Bushman Chapman grave. He thought he was a medicine man. We have pictures of my mother in laws father and half brother standing by Bushman Chapmans grave when they were young. I think 1920's. I never quite knew how Bushman was related. He is on my mother in laws heirship papers.
Who was Bushman's parents? I might have allready found that out at one time but I do not have that handy right now.
Thanks, Sara

Julia Chapman is either the sister or the dau of John B. Chapman according to the 1902 reg. of Santee Ind. Families. His parents were Caskeptecedan and Canpaahdiwin, both dead. Spouse- Lucy Saul. they married Nov 17, 1883 at Santee(Ref. Nebr. Marr. Regist. Fall 1869-1889,page 103,cer. no. 199). children: Julia Chapman and James Chapman. Julia Chapman was also in the 1902 Register at age 65, listed as a widow, and herparents listed are the same as John B. Chapman's,no info. on her spouse. They had a son named Phillip Chapman. The 1884 Census lists Julia Chapman aka Hdihewin with a niece-Martha Trudell aka winona age 32, living with her.

Actually Nancy was a Stone, Myrick, Wakute, Wapaha and I believe Stone is her maiden name as her mother is Julia Stone but we are not sure who she was married to or who Nancys' father was. She had one child Mary Myrick by Andrew Myrick. Mary Myrick married Samuel D. Hinman and their daughter was also named Mary. Mary Hinman married married Oliver LaCroix Sr. But she went by Mary Myrick Hinman LaCroix. So what I am looking for is who was the father of Nancy???

I thank everyone for all their replies and I am very interested in the Chapman family as that one is a mystery because I have seen that there is 2 Julia Chapmans one is Kinyewin and the other is Hdihewin. On the list of Santee allottees there are also 2.

Sara: I noticed that too. I am wondering if John B. Chapman had a daughter Julia. That is why I was thinking that Julia and John B. were siblings since they both had the same parents listed for them. Re. the Probate papers,I do not have them. I just copied off the pertinent information from them. You will have to contact my friend Liz Rockwood White. Her phone number is 712-276-0161. Her Address is 3817 Ridge Ave, Sioux City, IA 51106.

Hermin, I was looking at the Knox county census of 1900 today and remember seeing John B. Chapman listed in Harrison Township. He is listed as head and Julia was listed in the same house as his sister. It says John was born in 1847 and Julia was born in 1844. No children listed. Just those two.

Here are the list of Chapman's that died at Santee. This list of recorded deaths came from misc Santee microfilm at LDS Library. It gives name, allotment #, Date of birth, date of death and age at time of death, it looks like all the deaths on this list where before 1906. *Chapman Mary -There is no allotment number for her, birth 1843, death Nov 15th 1895, 52 years old at death. *Chapman Mary #410 Born 1870, died Jan 24th 1901, 31 years old at death. *Chapman Julia #415 Born 1836, died Dec 11th 1902, 66 years old at death. *Chapman Philip #416 Born 1873, died Jan 20th 1896, 23 years old at death. * Julia aka Jane #417 Born 1838, died Sept 10th 1901, 63 years old at time of death. *Chapman Louis #654 Born 1870, died Feb 27th 1894, 24 years old. * Chapman Luke # 656 Born 1868, died March 13th 1891, 23 years old at time of death. * Chapman Nancy. died August 18th 1882. ? at time of death. * Chapman Paul died Sept 21st 1882, ?4 at time of death * Chapman Joseph July 10th 1881, 7 at time of death. *Chapman Bushman mother died Feb 18th 1883, 65 years at time of death or 80 years at time of death. It gives two different ages. ( I would say she was 80, at time of death. Bushman Chapmans headstone reads 1817-1923 he was about 106 years old when he died, His mother would have been born about 1803, she may have had him at the age of 14 or 15. ) * Under the words Bushman Chapman is James, Child died April 13, 1881. ***************************************** In between Mary Chapman #410 and Julia Chapman #415 is Caskeptecidan #414 Born 1801, died May 5th 1894, 93 years old at time of death. This is the end of the recorded deaths at Santee. Sara

I lost my cord some where to my scanner, I would have to make a copy of it, and send it to you by US mail. Sara
I also have a copy of a translated letter that Caskeptedan, Bushman Chapmans father had written in Davenport Iowa Prison. I should say that... A letter was written by David Fairbault To Gen Sibley May 18th 1863 on behalf of several head dakota men in Camp McClellan. Caskeptedan was one of those dakota men. I can make a copy of that too.
