Hello, If someone would be so kind- I need a couple of names translated- Ruja icusna Mahpiyapahdewin and the one I can't even begin to figure out! Bidi Many thanks for all your kindness here! There are no R words in the Dakota language. Mahpiya-Clouds, Sky, or Heavens pa-head hde-to go home;to put or place, to make stand win-woman (possibly woman who stands with head in the clouds?) bidi-nothing in the dictionary-maybe Lakota or something else? jackie is right in that there are no R's but there is a period where often you see the letter as symbolizing the gutteral sound example Rota for Hota (Grey) or Marpiya for Mahpiya
when I saw the name ruja I thought of Rupa Rupa is the name of a lady I search for elizabeth lovejoy or rupa
oh.. and it means Wing
