Well now, I do like a good family mystery... First of all it is possible that John Barse son of Albert Barse and indian wife, may have married Katie LaCroix at some time, as he had been married a number of times. i will check with a descendant of his who has a large family tree. I have never seen her in one tho..
Annie Roy, I am not familiar with but will do some checking on. the Roi/Roy family are also known to have lived in the same areas of the sisseton agency. Veblen etc.
Paul and Susan Jug, intersting since this is the family my stepfather always tells me to remember the name change in. titus jug is the first person with this name and then the descendants later go by Titus as a last name. that would be how you would need to research their family.
I will get to you on this...

I have the most beautiful picture of Buffalo Lake. I took it on the south side of the lake where there is an old grave marker alone on a hill that says the cinca of TatankaRota john and mary. I brought my grandmothers to this area as the oral history in our family says that their grandmother a daughter of chief Bogaga was buried there. My 86 year old grandmother asked her sister if she would like to roll down the hill and flatten down the grass! my other grandmother said she saw some prickly weeds so she could just "go ahead" by herself... When they are together I often see the little girls in them and get glimpses of their childhood together, a priceless memory to go along with a beautiful picture. I will see if I can photobucket it to share.

I would just love to see that photo. Scenes like that wake up the arteest in me. You see there are artists( professionals), and there are arteets like me. I took art history and just loved every lecture, and treasure my Art History books that have most of the masters from the different periods o f art inthem.

getting back down to earth, have you tried searching via Rosalie? I have found many persons by looking for their siblings at Ancestry and Family Search web sites. If she lived in Dakota Territory, I believe someone on our site posted the web site that you can click on to access those Censuses, but be prepared to spend hours on end looking through them, there is a whole slew of them.

This post is in reference to Mr Mitchell and not Ms LaCroix. Have you seen the reference to Mr Charles Mitchell in the book by Thomas Hughes -Traverse De Sioux?
I need to read Wagon Wheels again since I thought there was a photo of them in it. (Buffalo Lake Photo) I am thinking I might use the photo in the future for something and often use as a letterhead. I am thinking it is going to be my personal identifying photo. I am goign to use it for the typed up family information for my grandmas family since her ancestor is buried at the very spot i took the photo.
I would love to show it to you hermin1... I will dig it out of the photo gallery!

glad you like the other picture. and I have a turkey in the tub.
Joke:
My little ones heard me say that I put "him" in the tub and so all nite have not gone in the bathroom, instead opting to use the bathroom downstairs. I asked them why? and they said that they didnt think they could while "He" was in the tub!! lol

I fdon't know if this will help or not, but my many times over ggrandfather, archigbald john campbell died in a duel in 1804. One of the witnesses in his will that he signed, was a Charles Mitchell. John was buried on Machinac Island. I have always believed that Charles was an Objibwe, because the other people in John's life were for the most part<Objibwe>. Looking for Charles info, you might try Michigan, Wisconsin, and Canadian history. I only remember seeing things in Michigan though. I also thought there were 2 Charles, father and son, but it has been so long since I read this information, that I cannot positively confirm this part of what I am sending. Keep in mind that the Charles I am referring too was alive in the late 1700s and the early 1800s. Maybe this will help in your research. One more thing, I really thought that Charles was a lawyer. I hope this helps some and doesn't cause more confusion.

Any chance your art is displayed on the Internet, would love to see what expressions you choose. Thank you. I remain, DarkWolfe PS-I have Roy and La Croix family names in Quebec early on, 1500-1700s.
