Hello everyone. The Native Family Resource Center in Sioux City is in serious danger of being shut down within the next 10 days. I am making a special request. Would each of you please write a letter stating why the center needs to stay open? Every letter will help. Of course there are no guarantees. Please please please write a letter asking for the Center to stay open. It would be great if everyone on this site could write a letter of support for Native Family.
Address it to whomever it may concern:
You can include how the Center has impacted you and your family. State anything that will help. You can email them to me and I will take them to the Center. Remember that time is critical. My email address is: Jackiemhahn@aol.com
Thanks, Jackie

Native Family Resource Center has been outstanding in helping whoever asked them and I think Edith Casiday should be commended.
Native Family Resource Center will be closing on October 15 due to lack of funding. On October 15 they will be known as FIRST NATIONS OUTREACH and will be on their own as far as funding is concerned.
First Nations Outreach will need monetary donations immediately to stay running. If everyone on this website sent a check for $1.50 each it would keep the center open for another month. Come on people help our own!
Send what ever you can. Make it payable to the First Nations Outreach. Put att: Edith C.
I think this is a tremendous asset to us all and would not like to see their services have to end.
First Nations Outreach 804 W 7th St. Sioux City, Ia 51103 Phone (712) 252-5902
Thank you
Jackie

I agree. Native Family Resource Center carries an immense amount of documents which we need in our genealogy research. They have always unselfishly gone out of their way to help all of us who have been trying to find our ancestral connections in the Wolfchild case and they have never asked for money although they certainly could use help. It seems all Native service centers have to struggle to keep their doors open, yet they extend the most help. We will lose a great asset if we don't help First Nations Outreach. Let's all come together to keep them going.

I also noticed that this was posted the 21st of September. Isn't it past the 10 day mark? I just found out about this today.

Post as many ideas to help them stay open, as many as you can think of, all of you. Brain storm for resources. It shouldn't just involve us only. I had suggested that they get a hold of other centers across the Nation to see if they can help out somehow. I can't seem to contact the center myself. Can someone direct me to them? Thank you.
Redbrother thank you for your interest and concern. the phone number is 712-252-5902. Or you can write to: Edith Casaday at Matriarch42@aol.com Walter"Dumpy" John Phone: 712-226-4792( home), or 712-252-5902(Center). hermin1 the Address is First Nation Outreach Center, 804 W. 7th Street,Soioux City,IA 51103.

Basically the Center has to start over again. It has to get chartered and that will take a while. Once that is done, they can apply for federal grants, etc. In the meantime they need financial help to survive. Every Friday they have an Indian Taco sale. Come on people round up orders for them. I believe the price is $5.00 and it includes a pop. However I will have to double check that. This is the best money maker they have right now. So please look at my earlier post and send them a monetary donation. The Center ahs helped hundreds of people with genealogy, food, clothing, transportation, faxes, education, counseling. These are only a few of the things that they have done.

I am assuming that they will stay open after the funding has run out right? would this give us time to act on their behalf? I mean there are Santees and Winnebegos, Macy Natives that stay in that area...a door to door might be beneficial, perhaps some flyers for support.
What are their primary needs to stay open? HOW MUCH EACH MONTH?

the old Native Fam. res. Center, and the new First Nation Outreach Center provide the following services: FAXing Photocopying Gift Baskets for newborns Use of the telephone for emergency long distance calls, and for local calls Sewing circle on Tuesday nights Edith Casaday is a Notary public Referrals to other local agencies and the other reservations, where indicated. Transportation to apply for jobs, housing, etc.
I estimate that the Center needs at least 2000 dollars per month to stay in operation.
