I am searching for these annuities to help a friend. If anyone has them, please send me a pm so I can get a set. 1851, 1854, 1858 Mdewakanton Annuities I am also seeking information on the death of a Wicanhpikoyakewin for the same person. Once again, I would appreciate any help in this area.
Thank you, Jackie

Does anybody know if they gave out annuities in the 1865 - 1880 years for the Mdewakantons? I am searching for something that would put my gr. grandfather on the same page as his "adopted" mother (his blood aunt). Her name is Margaret Prescott, and my gr. grandfather is Peter Thompson. Peter was born in 1865 @ Shakopee and raised by his mothers sister Margaret after his parents died. The lawyers said they will accept my family if I can produce some adoption papers (of course, we know those don't exist!!), but I thought if I could put the two of them on the same page during his younger years that would help. Thanks
Lori

What were Peter's parents' names? Did Margaret have any other last names she went by? Was she born in Redwood in 1848? What was her maiden name? Any answers that you have might be able to help us to help you.

Could someone please help me! I am assisting my uncle and we are looking for Henry Wowimnaka, or Anna Wipasapewin or Makasanwanyagmaniwin, Nellie Bluedog or Oyatewanykewin, Taoyatedutawin, and Sunkotoiciye or Bluedog. I know I seen them on the lists and have put them into the search component but can't pull anything up. Thanks derockbraine1

Lori: see if you can find the book Old Betsey: Life and Times of a Famous Dakota Woman and her Familyby Mark Diedrich. It talks about those Mdewakantons, between 1863 and later, who remained in Minnesota.

USD Library at Vermillion also has the book. It only cost 5 cents/page to copy off the whole thing. You can also borrow it on Interlibrary loan through your local library. As I recall an annuity of sorts was given out to the ones living on Faribault"s land in 1865,in the amount of $7,500.OtherDay got the lion's share of the money ,$2,500. and I believe that on several occassions, land allotments were approved by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, but for some reason or other were cancelled, prior to the allotments given out in 1904.

Derockbraine1
We are also looking for information on Wowimnaka as he is our gggrandfather. Andrew Noble was married to our ggrandmother Emma Esau Mazahowaste. The only info we have is Andrew and Wowimnaka's probate records. Cousin Mona is our family researcher and got a lot of records for us but we are still lacking.

Hi Tamara: Do you still have the book about Old Bets? Could you tell me if she had a brother named Rattler? (Icasna is the Indian name for Rattler). My gr-gr-gr-grandfather was Rattler. I'd like to know more about him; Also, is Old Bets on either the 1886 or 1889 Census? If so, under what name? What was Old Bets' Indian name? Is her brother, Rattler, on either census? If so, under what name? ...... Can you direct me where to look for a list of Rattler's children? Thank you so very much for your help. I have that book Old Bets... umm on "extended loan" from the Pierre Library!! lol I need to return it but can lookup anything you like.
