I would like to Thank You for your very generous post. My family has been looking information on Taninni or One Running for over a year and a half. She is our GGG Grand Mother. We are a poor family trying to research on a shoe string and this is a important find for us. We are trying to find Kanpeska or possibly James or John Blaine who was with Taninni at one time and was taken into Fort Snelling prison with Wakute. Could you tell me where we might locate the 1885 Ponca Census repository?

The latest census I could find her in was the 1896 Ponca Census: More relatives on the next page: I found some people named Blaine at Yankton, but the oldest was born in the late 1860s.

You were looking for a Kampeska. There was a Kampeska that was taken prisoner and died while in Prison. I believe in Camp McClellan Stockade Davenport Iowa. I do not have my records with me I am down at Santee this weekend. I will look this up later. Sara

The information that we have is that Tainni (One Running) or Margaret LaClair married Charles Henri LaClair. We suspect that Charles is linked to Olivier LaClair who married one of Crow Feathers daughters. The Charles LaClair that I suspect was an interpreter on the 1858 Treaty. I am finding the name LaClair, LeClaire, LeClerc seems to be the French equivalent of Smith or Jones in English.

We have found the name Taininni One Ruuning or Margaret LaClair and Kanpeska on a Probate for Emma or Emily LaClair. I found the Kanpeska who was reported to have died in Prison. But somewhere else I found the name in Census or Land Allotment records after 1862. Also I heard that the name was changed to Blaine from Kampeska.

There are Kanpeska's that live at Sisseton.
I wonder if they could help you. Sara

I received information that show's that a Peter Pierre LaClair married a Ponca Woman who was born about 1840. I suspect that this was Taninni or One Running (Margaret LaClair) Ponca, who had children. One of the children was Emily or Emma LaClair. Then Peter Pierre LaClair remarried and had another daughter, who he also named Emily LaClair. I suspect that there are a whole lot of confused people out there who do not know this. I would like to hear from anyone who may have some information on this. Thank You. BlackHills_58@yahoo.com

Well, now I am confused because Charles LaClair is listed as a Widower and Father-in-Law on the 1900 Census living with Carroll Rouse and Emily Rouse. It seems that my revelation with regard to Peter LaClair and Emily LaClair does not fly. But there is still two Emily LeClairs there.
