Hello Everyone! I just talked to a very nice lady (Joyce) at the BIA here in Fort Thompson and she said they do have the 1885 Census of Crow Creek and Lower Brule. She said that if you would like you can go there and look at the records that they have and if you find something you would like a copy of they can make you a copy. OR If you live out of state or far away you can send them a written request and they (Joyce and Lori) can look it up for you. But each request must be given a 20 working day time limit as there are only 2 doing this and it will take them some time as they have other duties as well. But they would be willing to do this for anyone requesting VIA Fax or Snail Mail. Thank You, Sandy
Send your: "LETTER OF REQUEST TO THE FOLLOWING" Bureau Of Indian Affairs PO Box 139 Attn: Realty Fort Thompson SD 57339 Phone # (605) 245-2311 Fax # (605) 245-2343
** I would like to Thank these ladies for doing this to help all the people that are looking for ancestors. **

We know that the Mdewakantons imprisoned at Ft. Snelling were transported to Crow Creek Reservation @1863/1864. I can not believe that the BIA does not have any records showing the names of those sent to this reservation. But then too, I wonder if Minnesota Historical Society would have any records from Ft. Snelling, showing who survived the imprisonment and was sent to Crow Creek. Does this make sense to anyone?

Hermin, In the Santee mission books are some baptisms that took place at Crow Creek. Also in the Santee Iape Oaye newspapers.
