To Zachery Taylor President of the United States.
Some time since you called us all down to buy from us a part of our country. We were on the way when we heard that it was the intention to set aside all our old Chiefs and Braves, and to appont others in their instead. For this we were unwilling and so proceeded no further. They have done nothing bad and said nothing bad, and if this thing is done the whole nation will not consent to it. and never can consent to it. THe land belongs to them as well as to the whole people. And when you communicate with us they are the ones whom you will talk. When you hold a council with us, if you will appoint the interperter whom we wish to have, we shall be much pleased. There is talk of sending home the missionaries who dwell among us. This we do not wish. THey teach us and declare to us the word of God. After you have seen this communication you will see another, when you will hear the united wish of the whole people. Signed by
MazaWakandapi Wanmdiokiye Wakanmani and 17 others.
