Wahpekute Band

Hi,

I am looking to find all the info on the Wahpekutes.

THis is some of what I have.

In 1840 Chief Tasagi(?) was killed by Wamdisapa/ Black Eagle
these being Wahpekute'
Does any one have any info on Chief Tasagi?

In 1851 Husasa band has 61 Head families.

In the 1858 Annuity for the Mdewakanton Wahpekute
Red Legs/Husasa has 116 Head Families in his band.

In 1860 he has 50 Head families in his band.

In about 1860 they write about the Dakota bands....

"The Wahpekutes under Red Legs/Husasa generally lived at the southeastern border of the reserve, not far from the etnically German town of New Ulm".

Was there any other Wahpekute bands besides Husasa in the late 1850's, 1860's ?

Great-Grandfather spelled his name: "Mazaadidi."

Re. the killingof Tasagye, the SD GenNet. at
www.usgennet.org/usa/sd/state/chron1.htm

puts the date of his death as in 1825. Tasagye was killed by his brother Wambdisapa, the father Inkpaduta. Wambdisapa was driven from the tribe according to the wbsite aboe. He and his band settled on the Vermillion River in South Dakota.
A nother web site, however has Tasagye still alive in the 1840's. this web site gives a historyof the Wahpekute:

I have seen it stated that
Tasagi is the father of Husasa/Red Legs aka Whipple born 1805 and also Tasagi a father to War Eagle.

I have also seen Wamdisapa/Black Eagle on Santee Census with last name Thomas.

Very interesting, now I am very tired. Must stop before I make any mistakes.

hermin1 aka quick draw! Speed and accuracy! doesnt get better than that. I was going to say that the book Inpaduta covers some of the information on his relationship to Wambisapa and his death. I regret to say that although I hunted the book down and wanted it so much at the time.. I have yet to read it completely. I can scan the pages if you like, Sara. Let me know. The index only lists a few pages with his name on it so it wouldnt be hard.
