I had a long talk with my grandfather the other day about this and he knows pretty much as anyone else involved. He's been through a lot and knows his Indian Law. He had a little message for everyone
"don't get excited, keep your hopes at bay. This is a legal process and it can go one way or another. We'll hear nothing but good from our side, and the defendant and their followers will only get good news from their side. There are always 2 sides to a story. Pay no attention to propadanda from our side or theirs, and there is nothing to talk about or get excited over until the other tribes are brought in, which may or may not happen. Without them as parties, we are entitled to absolutely nothing (assets). "

Ok, that is ok to hear, but so being certified could mean nothing? I mean lets say I am certified so only the certification makes me an LD with the title of Mdewakanton? Then getting certified Mdewakanton does not mean we will be entitled to money...right? To heck with the money I just want the title the rest can take as long as it wants. If there is money then so be it. If I am in I am going to enroll right away and walk right in front of MK's+ Buttes office waving to them...lol

I'll have to ask him about that one. Once you get him goin', you can't make him stop lol. If you are Mdewakanton, you don't need anyone telling you otherwise. You don't need a "title", you are or you aren't.
His point was (in my opinion) all this entitlement talk, enrollment talk, PC talk from the other forum is moot and hold absolutely no merit until SMSC and PI are brought into the case. And there is a chace that might not happen. On top of that, the intervention of LS is not a sure thing, it's on the "application" stage. The judge did say 2 summers ago that w/e we get, it wont come from the tribes, it'll come from Tax Payers.

Anytime he wishes to rant, he would have a listener in me. I love to hear the elder's point of view whether or not I agree, it is always appreciated.

cashmoney...bring your POPS to the forum if you wish...I and others surely would not mind to hear both of you express knowledge. What I was trying to say above was that IF you are certified LD you are now the name holder of Medewankanton, but because you are a name holder does not mean you get cash...until the communities come together right? Then as I recall they are seeking lawyers to help them in thecase at hand. What would your Gfather have to say on this? Are they to late? One more Q: In the start there was the WE WON! WE WON BIG! There is no reversing the case here is there? They can appeal matters if they wish, but can or can they not reverse the case to be un-WON so to speak?>?>?> Thanks for your time.

I think we are all also saying, "appreciate your elders and especially your grandparents" and obviously, Cash, you do.
That is the beauty of our culture, even when you no longer have your family members you feel as if you still have one, a grandpa, grandma, uncle, aunty or other. lol I think he would be a great Oyate Exchange Tankasida!

You are right there are two sides to a story and we can only do our best to bring forth our story with as much documentation and research as we can humanly achieve. Your Grandfather is wise and understanding about Indian law and we would be for the better to listen and learn from that. I just wanted to say that we're all trying to gain an understanding of our ancestors and the historical significance in this case. Thank you again for your wisdom and let us work together for the best interests of all our people. May we all have a pleasant journey ahead. This is wanbligi on Jan. 17, 2007 at 12:02 p.m.
