I have begun working to try to certify my niece, who is a Tuttle. I have learned that she has a family tree that was done for the 1972 Missouri Lawsuit that must have also required proof of lineal descendancy. This makes me wonder: What was the criteria for proof of lineage in previous lawsuits where it was necessary? Did they need to use baptisms in the same manner as this process requires? Could a previous lawsuit help someone like my neice find the documents needed? Any input would be appreciated.

Tamara: I would think that whatever documents were submitted for that previous lawsuit would be satisfactory. So long as they show a direct link to one of the persons on the two Mdewakanton censuses. Examples of documents would be marriage record(if available),baptismal records, death certificate-if you can't find a marriage certificate, census record(s), Probate papers(Heirship Papers). The last one,I think is your ace in the hoe if you can't come up with otherdocumentation.
