Don that can be hard for alot of people. The accusations can go and go regarding who we are as people. Specifically with the lawsuit, people are called names and made fun of for who they are or are not. I am truly sorry if any member on this board has been hurt with judgement and words on this forum. I am not a moderator or anything like that, just simply a person who relies on good quality information regarding research; who gets a little frustrated with the name calling I wish all of you a good day. I started my new year journey on this earth yesterday. My resolution is to be a better person. So with that I send you all my love.... [glow=red,2,300] wazi[/glow]

Don i beleive you are in this for the money. I was raised oglala, but my mother and grandmother Are Sisseton and Mdewankton, i never knew i thought they were from Pine ridge where i grew up. You know nothing of hardship and i live well also but it is not the Dakota and Lakota way to brag of yourself. It is not traditional to boast of yourself to make a point, action speaks louder than words, and what would impress me is if you had done something good for someone else, not what you have. Gertting back to the claim: There's a bit of a stir on the other web site involving a rumour that Santee intends to disenroll anyone who receives a settlement sum once this suit is over. I always knew you were not supposed to receive TRIBAL benefits from two different tribes, but my take on the settlement is that this isn't about a conflicting tribal benefit. It seems pretty clear to me that lineal descendency is the only issue. There are people who can prove lineal descendency who aren't registered anywhere. My question is can Santee abitrarily kick someone out who merely receives monetary damages? I can see those who want to register at Lower Sioux having to give up Santee membership, but the rest of it just doesn't make any sense. Oh yeah, I agree; it's probably all just rumour anyway. I think it would be senseless, since the santee have recieved monies from the Mdewankton tribe. After the Shakopee bailed pine ridge out of their turmoil, I've gained alot of respect for them as a whole. And as i said before never evem knew i was from their, until my mom mentioned it before all this settlement and claims stuff came about. My lakota family from ridge was huge, now i will multiply my lst of cousins. As far a rumours go, they are good at doing that in Pine Ridge and since i ihavent seen anything, I'll wait until i know for a fact they will disenroll members. We have some weston family from up there.

i'd be careful, tokakte's posts should carry alot of clout. if you go back and read her/his posts they are very intelligent and informative. at least that's my opinion, his/hers posts should be taken seriously. the only reason i say his/hers, he/she is because i don't know gender. in case you were wondering. This is big I hope there is back up on this statement I do not like to hear she said he said. BACK THIS!!!! I want the truth not half a sleep just coming out of your dream mode. Hey honey the tribe is going to disenroll the members for taking money. Please do not do this!

we were told of this same message right after mr. kettering was at santee. mr. kettering and co. were told not to come onto reservation land again. apparently quite a bit was also said to the tribal members. tokakte's accurate in what he and i do mean he is saying. it is very sad when tribal councils or individuals feel it is necessary to use scare tactics and threats to try and intimidate people. i hope that doesn't stop the people from continuing on their quests to find out about their pasts and establish their family trees.

that is the question is this in the council's policy? I know a little about this. First this has to go in front of the supreme court, regarding tribal laws. If they disenroll you with out prior consent and the legal proceedings to take place then they clearly have broken the law. There is a way to know this check the santee tribal law and code to verify the process on members. If there is a will there is a way. Ban me? I don't think so. Some one please tell me you know the tribal by laws and codes and you carry great knowledge on this topic.

well i was not there, however i do believe that somethings did take place. the bottom line is for the people to stay strong and continue in their quest. no one has the right to deny others the knowledge of their past.

R U nuts Dakota!!!! First I don't think santee can do that. But then again we spent tona years here on the pine ridge saying "THEY CAN'T DO THAT!!!!" In Flandreau they tried to disenroll people and the tribe lost. I thin it is nuts that tribal officials would even get involved in this. This lawsuit has nothing to do with who the Santee Sioux Tribe is. It has to do with who the three communities are. However, this world is filled with bullies and haters. My suggestion is everyone go out and say morning prayers for these people who struggle with anger/hate/greed/and envy. Pray for 7 mornings in a row and see what happens. wazi

As I posted in another thread, here is a link to the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska Constitution: thorpe.ou.edu/IRA/nesancons.htmlThis constitution does not give the power to the tribal council to disenroll members.
