It looks to me like the Government has pretty much given up arguing at this level, and they must feel they are holding a "pat hand" for their appeal.

There is really nothing for them to argue at this point.Correct me if I'm wrong, The next step is to figure out who is LD and who is not.

Yes your right Dakota20 the judge already ruled on this in the gov motion to reconsider,and that response was it.How about they have nothing?The 28th of april will be a big day when the judge gives the order for discovery,the judge will not go thru every Ld because it has been done by a certified anthropoligist,yes he may have his own expert go thru it,which is fine because it has all been done by numbers i'm sure thats how they all do it so it will not take years,because if that was the case the judge would have set out that deadline out for a couple of years. Or the judges other option is go with the U.S. list which by their response they either don't have one or an incomplete list.In the next couple of months things will get very very intresting,and if we still don't beleive we won or have a chance why are we still researching?You use more energy to frown than you do to smile,so good luck on your research.  |

HELLO EVERYONE. HOW THE HECK ARE ALL OF YOU? ARE YOU READY FOR SUPERBOWL SUNDAY? Now back to the things that are most important: RESEARCH, LEARNING, SHARING, AND FRIENDS. Keep up the good work! I have seen some really interesting information get added to the site today. Lets get out there and find some more. I know I have to call the MNHS on Tuesday, because somehow I seem to have not gotten one set of baptisms I had originally wanted. So I guess I will go about getting them ordered on Tuesday.

Sara,Do you think that if people would have been truthful from the beginning that this would not have had to happen. this whole lawsuit is a direct result of people keeping the truth to themselves It is also a very good example of what money and power can do when placed in the hands of people who don't think of anything else but themselves.

Don..........you take my words....rearrange them to form your own objective opinion against me. I dont understand why you do it but you must be VERY VERY bitter person with a half empty glass. I never said years.....well its been 3 years from the start of this lawsuit. Thats besides the point. I said it will take a long time. To some people a long time is a year some 6 months or other people years. You took my words and made it sound like I said it would take years. You said years, I said a long time........... whatever that may be is to be determined but it already has been a LONG time from the day this suit began. 3 years and we arent even to the trial.
Also Don. I NEVER had to do any research. I have always know who I have been......It has never changed because dollar came into play. I always known I was dakota and will be dakota forever. Don, do you know who you are? Because I know who I am and nobody can take that away from me.

My name is Sara Childers, my husband and children are Mdewakanton/Wahpekute. We live in the Davenport Iowa area. We are hosting the first Dakota Prisoner Memorial Wacipi here in Davenport Iowa at the Camp McClellan site. We have a copy of an original list of the Mdewakanton Wahpekute Sisseton Wahpeton prisoners who died here at the camp. 177 male prisoners were released form here April 1866 and sent to the Niobrara river area aka Santee Agency. Of those 177 men, several are on the 1886/89 MN Mdewakanton Census. If you are a certified LD for the lawsuit, chances are good one of your ancestors was a prisoner here at Camp McClellan.
I would like to invite you to this years Memorial Wacipi.

If you would like to help, I can email you our expenses, I usually have the donater send the dontaion directly to the rental company or food distributor that we are using. I normally don't like to ask anyone for money, however I am trying to make this the best that it can be for those ancestors and there descendants.
