There is a lot of relative disconnection up here in Canada, Our great grandmother, Victoria Pashee/Smoke whose father was John Paziiyapa whose father was Paziiyapaumani whose father was Yajopi or Yazopi, was the youngest daughter of John Paziiyapa and she was given the American allotment from her father and her uncle as a honorable gesture in due of respect because of her mother, grandmother and grandfathers. Our great grandmother was given the American allotment to preserve and protect as a memorable connection to never forget who our relatives are and in a matter of principle for Mitakuye Oyasin. Our great grandmother was given the American allotment because she was practicing the traditional ways, even though it was against the law in Canada our grandparents had secret gatherings practicing ceremonies and feasts. Our grandmother was given the American allotment because she was living close to her father and uncle looking after them after their wives passed on and while also practicing midwifery in the village for the woman giving birth. Our tradition was a matriarchal society and our grandmothers kept the family intact by preserving the historical records and passing them down to descendants who were most stable in life and endured a life of respect for others, this is our tradition in our Smoke tiyospaye up here in Canada.
