Found Grandfather's Indian name listed for the Fort Belknap, MT Assiniboine Census as "Keyan kenina" and his Brother's name as "Hosidi osike". Help with translation greatly appreciated. Thanks, Candice Copeland kickapoocandy@gmail.com

kickapoocandy: do you remember what year that census was taken? the censuses I have looked at so far (1884-1885),list both the Indian and English names each person at the Ft. Belknap reservation. I will continue searching the censuses, and hopefully, will find their names in Indian and English,but it would help me if you would post the year that the census you mentioned, was done.

Contact the Ft. Belknap and Ft. Peck Community colleges.
Both teach the Assiniboine language.
As they are close to Dakota keyan looks like Kinyan= to fly
Hosiki = Hoksi =male child.
I posted this for wakanhotanin
