Over on the other board there is a disscusion about the non-ld members at LS. HAS anybody told them what the ramifcations of our case will have on them? The general concept of non-ld members at LS is fear. How are we going to get the entire LS behind our cause without causing a backlash against us and our case¿?
I just dont see 100% of the non-ld's getting behind us when they know the reality of what can happen. They are not entitled to full benifets, I.E PC will be cut off. On the other board you get the feeling that we will be in controll of all of the casino's and have all the political power very soon. But cases like these with this much impact will not just take mere months but YEARS. The other board is a little misleading in that regard. In the last ruling the U.S had somwhere around 60 days to appeal because of somthing called "appeal rights" and the government works in a slimy way somtimes and will wait to the 60th day to appeal.
"we can at least care for them..they arent entitled to the full benefits..maybe just a share of the PC from Lower Sioux
~Carl Leath"
It is just being way oversimplified by some of our fellow Ld's. Its understandable why people would do this because it could change their lives but there are alot of legalities involved and will take some time.

I think the non-LD issue is going to be worked out in Lower Sioux's proposal. It is all a little confusing, but I think it would benefit everyone to put together a plan of their own and then work towards a group resolution. I agree on the other forum the truth can be clouded at times, however I don't think everyone participating on that forum is blind.

Relatives, Please keep in mind that the deadline is for lineal descendants who want to participate in the lawsuit, and be eligible for past damages that will be awarded. Not everyone wants to or has to participate--it is a personal choice. The "plans" that will be discussed at Lower Sioux are for what happens in the future for the children and grandchildren of the lineal descendants, as they are identified or born, and how future proceeds from the trust lands are allocated.
Also, keep in mind that there was additional land added to the trust land at Lower Sioux to accommodate those Dakota people who wanted to come home but were not original beneficiaries of 1886 trust land. If I remember correctly, that accounts for about 70% of the land at LS.
IMHO, for what it's worth, this should not a battle between LDs and "non-LDs." Many of us have grandparents who were hanged in Mankato or imprisoned at Ft. Snelling and Davenport, grandparents who were born at Crow Creek in 1863, as well as grandparents who were "loyal" Dakotas--I for one will work in a way that attempts to honor all of my ancestors and all of my relatives, whatever community they live in.
