I understand and respect the opinions posted. I am not an attorney either but perhaps having dealt with a few attorneys in the last 20 years has left me cynical and questioning our legal system. I still question as to whether there is or is not a conflict of interest. Not only is Dr. Buttes a plaintiff but several of her relatives are as well. I understand that this "list" is only Kaardahl's list and you have the options of finding an alternate counsel oryou have the choice of representing yourself, in either case you still need the proper documents and etc. I am also guessing that the law firm has also thought of this as well and is prepared to deal with this issue if it should arise. The boost professionally for both Kaardahl and Buttes will be astronomical and whether the court will even possibly view Buttes involvement and her plaintiff status as a "conflict of interest" remains to be seen. My cynacism stems from personal experience with a "Conflict of Interest" at the 11th hour which just resulted in higher legal fees and more court time. I would not be surprised by anything still wouldn't count my chickens. I hope I don't sound pessimistic but my experience with this is an echo of Sara's earlier post. I don't think anyone who has relatives involved with the Dakota Conflict can remove themselves emotionally and neither past history or our government has been kind. Let's hope and pray that the outcome is more positive withi our generation,

Sara ,
I'm looking at Iron Elk's tree (sparse tree at that). It shows Iron Elk married to TatiyopaDutaWin. It lists his father as Sergeant Russell, Ft. Snelling with no mother listed on their tree. It shows that Amos Ross is a son. Do you have any more info? The family really knows very, very little. I think things must have been so bad the people just didn't talk about those times.

Wow that is a new one on me. I have a copy of one of Iron Elks probates and I did not remember seeing that, but anything is possible before D.C. (Dakota Conflict). I will check early Census records and see how many people it lists. His wifes name would be Her Red Door Woman Ta tiyopa duta.

Hi Sara, This info came from his gggggggranddaughter (I think that is right). I have TatiyopaDutaWin (same except for the win at the end) and Amon as his son. This tree does not list other children, just Amos. I can try to find out. Amos Ross was born 1/5/1852 at Kaposia (?sp) and died 2/11/1875 in Santee, NE. He was married to Lucy Gayton who was born 2/7/1860 at Ponca Agency and died 2/11/1875 in Santee, NE. It mentions Allen, SD but I do not know if they lived there at some time as there is no explanation on Allen, SD. Amos and Lucy had a daughter who was born 7/7/1886 in Kyle, SD and she died 8/9/1961 in Allen, SD. If she was born in Kyle then obviously Amos and Lucy lived there at some point. Also does not give any other information on children, I will try to find further info. on siblings. Sorry I'm posting as I'm reading. Angelique was married to John J. Howe on 2/2/1912 but does not give a location. Angelique and John had several children. The only one listed here is Velma Howe-Sasse who was born on 9/9/1923, no birthplace given. Velma was married to Charles Sasse on 10/26/19 ? but does give Cheyenne, WY?. I know she has a least one 2 brothers and if there are others I will find out. Velma and Charles had at least 2 daughters. The one I know is Anita Sasse born 7/15/1957 in Rushville, NE. She was married on 5/8/1976 to a ? Hicks and they currently live in Martin and have four kids. Tara, Thad, Kyla and Drew. Anita has a sister who lives in Sioux Falls, is married and has children. They do have Heheamaza under his name and what I find interesting is the listing of Sergeant Russel at Ft. Snelling, MN and his mothers name was TukanWicasta. This info was given to the family by another family member who works at Oglala Lakota College and has been in geneology for many, many years. I will see what else they have. No matter what happens we are all Dakota, i was born raised and bred on pine ridge, so i am oglala, but my mother is santee and mdewakanton, all of the tetons mother tribe. We are all the same people, i am mixed blood and i hate the full blood mixed blood arguement, i was raised with my people and thats the way it was back then, blood quantum is an issue when our people deny our own members. We would be stronger if we were united and the rightful people were in power.

Greed and poverty dominates this case and many who claim descendency are not true, so there will be few if the US Govt has to prove the truth. They will not pay who they dont need to, m just lookin forward to my 80 acres by the lake. money is no issue if i can hunt.
