This is my 2nd great grandmother born about 1883 in the Dakota territory I have been told that she was a Sioux Native (possible Black Foot) not sure moved to New York and I have seen her marriage license which state her Christian given name and nothing else. didn't know if she ever had contact with any family members in the Dakotas. Help!

Hi, This is my grandmother as well. I heard that she is of the Blackfeet tribe. She married my grandfather Harmon H Coons. They lived in New York. He owned a Deli. My mom told me that she thought that Cornelia (don't know her Indian name) registered in Maine not sure if this is true. Harmon was a trapper and one year came back with his wife. Coons is her married name. They lived in Hudson New York. From what I know she died June 18, 1961 at the age of 75. Her birthdate was 1833 in the Dakota Territories.

I found this at ancestry's forum: at that forum it was mentioned that Cornelia b. 1833 had a daughter also named cornelis b.1859. the second cornelia had a son Herbert coons, who lived in boston, mass. His wife was mable Sargent. I also found this : "Unfortunately , I do not know her maiden name either. The Coons line has proven to be hard to trace. This Cornelia was married to a Herman/Herbert Coons. They lived in Hudson, NY I could dig out my genealogy pages if you'd like. Email me directly at shamrockdznr@aol.com."
