nita, welcome to our website. when you say the Andersons, do you have first name for these Andersons, and anything about them? Were your ancestors, african American or Indian or mixed bloods?
do you know where wiley's parents were born?
what documents do you have which lead you to the people,and or place ,you mentioned?
please post the answers to our questions, as they may give us clues on where to search for them.

questions:
Were any of the people you mentioned, African America slaves?
where did the Andersons live?
where were your father's parents born, and wehre did they die?
where were your gr. grandfather and gr.grandmother born and where did they die?
do you have any obituaries for any of the people you mentioned?
do you know where your dad's ancestors,other than his father, were buried?
I fail to see how your dad's ancestors had any connection with any of the Dakota Sioux you mentioned. I will check out Fort snelling,and see if there may have been a soldier with last name Anderson stationed there prior to 1865.
did you check out the Records for the Slaves and Freedmen?

nita; thank you for the additional information.it is good that you have those records re. the land and the slave holdings.
it is true that the Cherokee, the Choctaws, and other Indian tribes did have negro slaves prior to 1865, and possibly prior to 1885.The problem in looking at the censuses for the various Indian Tribes is that, the regular Indian Censuses only cover the period of 1885 to 1940, unless there were special censuses done prior to 1885, and they don't include the names of slaves.
do you know if your mother is a full blood Indian or a mixed blood Indian?
We will see what we can find with the information you have provided. After 1865, the names of former slaves would be in the US censuses.

FORMER SLAVES. The 1860 U.S. Census was the last U.S. census showing slaves and slaveholders. Slaves were enumerated in 1860 without giving their names, only their sex and age and indication of any handicaps, such as deaf or blind Slaves 100 years of age or older were supposed to be named on the 1860 slave schedule, but there were only 1,570 slaves of such age enumerated, out of a total of 3,950,546 slaves nationwide. Though not specifically looking for slave names, the transcriber did notice thee following: on page 315B, held by Tyne(?) Spann, 105 year old male Charles, "supposed to be born in Africa is active and sprightly and works every day at his own will - enjoys all his senses fully"; page 319, held by heirs of Mrs. Ellis, 100 year old female Hannah Ellis; page 333, held by John Billups, 102 year old male Nat; page 356B, held by Frances Ballard, 103 year old male Peter; page 361, held by Mary J. Trantham, 140 (so written) year old male "Cain (Africa)"; and on page 322B, held by James Gunter, is a 15 year old male listed as a mulatto, but saying, "This boy is an albino though supposed to be full blood negro". Freed slaves, if listed in the next census, in 1870, would have been reported with their full name, including surname. Some of these former slaves may have been using the surname of their 1860 slaveholder at the time of the 1870 census and they may have still been living in the same State or County. Before presuming an African American was a slave on the 1860 census, the free census for 1860 should be checked, as almost 11% of African Americans were enumerated as free in 1860, with about half of those living in the southern States.
Estimates of the number of former slaves who used the surname of a former owner in 1870, vary widely and from region to region. If an African American ancestor with one of these surnames is found on the 1870 census, then making the link to finding that ancestor as a slave requires advanced research techniques involving all obtainable records of the holder. nita, can you post a photo of Mr. Anderson with your grandparents? they may have been working for him, but not as slaves. Wiley was born after the end of the Civil War.although his parents may have been slave s of mr. Anderson. the problem with the censuses prior to 1870, is they do not list the names of slaves,just the names of the heads of households and nos of males, nos of females and the totals.

we found information re. both sides of your father's family, and also, possibly, his death record in Soc. Sec. Death Index.
We found his father's grave site at the Zion PRIMITIVE Baptist church cemetery. the father was born Dec. 16,1909, and died Dec. 14, 1934.
I will be sending you by email the other documentation we found.
in every census record we saw, your father's father and your father's mother's side were listed as white.so apparently they were not slaves,but sharecroppers.
Your paternal gr.grandparents, were married @1899 in Alabama according to the Census.I found Wiley's gravesite, and his wife Maudie's, also at findagrave.com

it is really unusual, but not rare, for two people of the same family to be born on the same day, but years apart. My younger sis and oldest brother were born on the same day, but years apart also.

did your father ever mention anything about his father's siblings or parents?
We had no luck trying to track his father back prior to 1909. is it possible that his paternal grandfather was born in another state?

Hello, I have been learning about my ancestry and I believe chief cloud man is my great grandfather x4. My grandmother was Evelyn Blum-Bendikson (1/4 standing rock Dakota Sioux) her mother was Louise Bendikson-Azure. Louise’s parents were Henry saglasa? Azure and Mary Longee (still trying to trace back in that side as well, I have been told Mary’s family were also standing Rock but enrolled as Lakota and some Little Shell Chippewa of Montana) Henry’s parents were Nancy Nebraska and Solomon giicye “paints himself brown/Rust all over” who was one of chief cloud man’s sons.
