Many of you worked with my Aunt Merle on your family history. She was the last one in our line to carry the "Campbell" name. She passed away this past Monday. I was blessed to be with here at that time.
Obit as it appeared in the Glasgow and Ennis, Montana papers -
Merle Elizabeth Campbell, 88 years, passed away February 20, 2012 at the Madison Valley Manor in Ennis, Montana. Merle had been a resident there for the last year.
Merle was born November 21, 1923 in Genevieve, Montana to Chester A. Campbell and Isabelle F. Campbell nee Farquhar. The Campbell’s are a pioneer family of Montana. Merle’s grandfather, George Campbell and family, moved to Valley County, Montana in 1912 from Browns Valley, Minnesota.
Merle graduated from Glasgow High School, Glasgow Montana in 1943 and from there went to Bozeman, Montana to Montana University to take drafting classes. With these skills she was employed by Boeing in Seattle, Washington. She took great pride in having worked with the designs for Boeing’s 747. From Seattle Merle moved to Richland, Washington where she was employed with the Hanford project.
Merle spent many hours working on her family history during the last fifty years. She had great pride in her heritage, enjoying the research, travel, meeting with family members and sharing her discoveries. She was always ready to assist with questions and help with research. Merle had many interests, including her garden which she enjoyed tremendously, planting hollyhock seeds that had been given to by her Uncle John Bundhund, the art festivals, photography, and assisting with the voting polls. Besides her greatest love of working on family history, Merle’s kind heart always reached out to small animals. She has been the owner of many cats each taking its special place in her heart. A kind and charitable, Merle spent may hours making blankets, scarves and mittens for the children of the St. Labre Indian School.
Miss Campbell leaves behind to mourn two nieces, Margaret McDonald of Castro Valley, Ca and Barbara Rose of Ennis, MT. three great nephews, John E. Pike, Aaron J. Heredia, and Grayson J. McDonald, one great niece Jessica G. Vargas and two great grand nieces.
