Hello everyone I am very new to this, and have just discovered that my moms grandpa was named 'Sinterda- Thompson' as he lived on the reservations from 1854 to the 1900. I had no idea that this was the case until the indian census was presented to me where I am seeing his name along with his 7 kids. How would I go about finding out more, as I am from Washington state. ? thank you in advance, Elizabeth  |

hazina: You mentioned he lived on the reservations, but did not say which one(s).
if you ewould please provide us with more information, ie. names of his children, which Census you were referring to, we will know where to look for you.

Thank you for getting back.
It was the Indian census rolls between 1885 & 1940. It was between roll 507-512
Sisseton-Wahpeton tribe.
His name was 'John' Sinterda Thompson- wife Mary Thompson.
They had 7 kids
Harley
George
Charles
Izetta
Everett (my father)
Killis
Pearl
I believe he was from N. Dakota - Richland, but spent his life on the reservation.
Im sorry i dont know that much, but this is it so far.

hazina: Mary's maiden name was Standfast.
John Sinterda thompson was still living after 1930 in South dakota.
the John sinterda thompson i found at Ancestry .com was b. @ 1852 the 1933 Sisseton Census lists him with son Louis, dau. Minnie, son Herman,son George, and dau. Mary Hopkins.
mary, his wife's Indian nam,e was Tatemaniwin. In the 1888 sisseton Census, they are listed with Daughter Louise.
John's son Louis was wed to naomi simmons(1927 Sisseton Census)
the 1912 Census shows John with son James,son Louis,dau. Mary, dau. Minnie, gr. son herman, and dau. Allie.

hazina;I found John Thompson,son of John Sterinda Thompson and mary Hopkins's son John,b.1873 marshall,SD. his wife was Jennie r. b.1874,1/2 bld.
their children;zack,Winfred,Nicholas, Elizabeth were the surviving ones out f 12 children total.
ref: 1935 SD ERA Survey Roberts,SD.
the names you give for John sinterda's children do not jive with the ones i found, except for George.
suggest you check your sources again.
