Hi, I stumbled upon this site and am quite impressed with what i have seen so far. Would you know of any information regarding Henry C. Lafferty and Elizabeth Larrabee (Laravie/Larvie)? or of any of the Larrabee sisters: Sarah who was married to Scottie Phillips, Zoe who was married to Cornie Utterback, Helen/Nellie who was married to Crazy Horse, and my Grandmother Elizabeth whom married Henry C. Lafferty. The parents of the Larrabee/Laravie women were Joseph Larrabee/Laravie and Chi-Chi aka Mary Steed of the Cheyenne Tribe in Montana? You may email me the information if you have any or any pointers. All women are mentioned in books but nothing solid as to where they were enrolled or what their indian names were if they had any. Thank you for your time, Lynnette

and scroll down to the bottom you can see a purported photo of Helen Laravie, the mixed blood wife [her father was a French trader] of Crazy Horse. There is more info on that site about the chief's women, but one has to subscribe to see that. I would say that, when it comes to finding out things about ancestors, Google is your friend.
have you tried the following web sites:www.geneanet.org , www.familysearch.org. i have somelaraviers inmy records, but no laravies or larabees. When was your grandma born, where, and when, where did she die?Try working backwards on your tree, i find this helps with many of the people i help search for.
here's a good link which tells about Ellen/Nellie/Helen/chichi/Brown eyes woman, Joseph Larvie/larabee:
freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mikestevens/2010-p/surname_index.htm ancestry.com has the following info: Elizabeth was born @1857, South Dakota, Died 1910 Gettysburg,Dewey,SD. her hubby Henry C. Lafferty was born @1847 WI,son of John Lafferty(1808-1878) and mary Jones(1816-1856). As the link above states, joseph remarried to Susan Metcalf and they had children, all sons. You canalso check with earth7w re. the Pine Ridege genealogy, because Ellen/Ne..lliee,Helenetc.., Joseph and his second wife and their children all settled at Pine Ridge Res. in shannon County,SD.
The records at Tiospaye give Joseph's surname as Larvie or larabee. joseph had 5 daughters not 4. His 5th daughter Julia was born in1850 in NE. She died May 3,1909 SD.Her parents were Long Joe(Joseph larvie) and Big Cheyenne.so her sisters had the same mother.Julia's spouse was Michael Dunn, born 1845 in ireland. he died 25 Nov, 1921.they were married at fort robinson in NE. michael later wed the widow of his good friend James Dowd, in 1912 and they moved to Ft.Pierre,SD. his second wife died in1956. Michael, Julia and his second spouse are buried near James Dowdat Cedar Hill Cem. near Ft. Pierre,SD. Ref. Chap. 16 History of Ziebach County. they had 14 children, 5 lived to adulthod.
My mother name was Clevia Edith Larrabee and her grandmothers name was Nellie/Helen Larrabee. I was told that Crazy Horse and Helen had no children. I lived on the Pine Ridge Rez as a child and am just now interested in the lineage.
is a site that has a lot of info about Crazy Horse and his family.
I have never read that Crazy Horse had any children with Nellie Laravie but the latter's father had five or six sons by another wife, Susan Metcalf. Maybe your mother and grandmother are descended from one of Nellie Laravie's half brothers. We need more info in order to help you.
