I am looking for the parents and lineage of Sarah Chadron (Cournoyer Douville). I have quite a bit of informatin about her (She is my great grandmother), but nothing about her parents or farther back. Family lore says Chadron, NE, was named for her father, and that she had a half-brother. Her father was supposedly French-Canadian and mother Brule. If you have some confirmation or specifics, I would sure appreciate it!

Who was her half brother? the information from Louis Baptiste's biography listsd him as having a daughter that died as an infant. How did this sarah get the name Chadron? You know Hermin, I too, have been looking for the elusive fur trader, Chadron, because my relative Leon Cournoyer (1853-1892) married Sarah Chadron.
Sarah Chadron Birth abt 1854 in South Dakota Death 1 Oct 1936 in Gregory, South Dakota; She is buried at the Catholic Mission Cemetery in Wanblee, Jackson, S.D.
RE: CHADRON Note From the Book, Chardon's Journal at Fort Clark
"On page 211, note 48, it states, "Chardon, it should be remarked, had a nephew Frank who was in the Indian Country in the forties, of which the following is an indication:'the following account for Francis A. Chardon, 1840 Sept 'delivered his nephew Frank' (Merchandise Ledger, 1839-1842, P. C. Jr. Co., p. 106, Missouri Historical Society) He was probably a son of the man who, in the ledger account of 1836, is cited as "your brother George" (P. C. & Co.Retail Store LedgerA., 1834-1837, p. 380, Missouri Historical Society).
Under date of December 12, 1838 in his journal, Chardon has a reference to "George," who may have been this brother and, in some of the scribblings on outside, or coverings, pages of the journal, the name, "George," occurs. The Frank Chadron, the half-breed, who was at the Cheyenne River Agency, in 1881 was, conceivably, a Chardon (Hanson, Joseph Mills, "The Conquest of the Missouri," p. 416)."
Apparently, there was a trapper by the name of Chadron.
Sarah's children by Leon Cournoyer:
John Cournoyer 1876 – 1968
Claude N Cournoyer 1878 – 1946
Phillip Cournoyer 1881 – 1920
Charles Cournoyer 1883 –
Alice Cournoyer 1885 –
Olive Cournoyer 1886 –
Julia Cournoyer 1891 – 1918
Keva "Louise" Cournoyer 1894 -
As far as I know, she had no children by Douville.
