Some time ago I posted some information on the Baine's. No one replied. So I don't know if it fell on deaf ears. On the www.welshdakoapapers.com has the following: John Baine, his white father was a mess Sargent in Sisseton area (probably Ft. Wadsworth) 19Th Infantry. He was transferred to Ft. Yates and brought his Indian family with him. His wife was named Itocokawakanwin (Holy Center Face Woman). Louie

My name is Rebecca Baine. I think John Baine is the brother of William Milton Baine (my great-grandfather). John and William's Father was William Milton Bain a white soldier, born 1844 in Troy New York. I found William Sr's description in Military Records. John and William had two sisters, Martha married Archie Vandergrift and Sallie married Frank LaFramboise. If you agree John and William are brother's contact me at cbyates@comcast.net and we can compare information. William Jr. married Jennie Fitting; their son was William Walter. William Walter married Edna Locke; their son was Leonard William (my Father).

IT don't have anything to contribute -just wishes to state I have always been curious as to the source of this name. Great work.
