I am researching info on a family member who was know as red wing and later changed name to morrison/morison/morris..He was either sioux or blackfoot. He/his family later ended up in the tennessee area. There was something spoken of this individual hiding in the blackhills as well as a story about him being kicked off of the reservation at some point not sure if this is why the name change occured or if it was due to happening of the time period. Please n e one who has any info it would be greatly appreciated. My mother says she remembers her father saying he was part sioux and part cherokee if that helps at all. His father was killed in 1938 and at the time went by the name of john morris also known as john morrison, He was believed to be born around June 1870 -1875 and died in 1938 having moved to tennessee, however his wife (mary elizabeth smith) (her parents were tom smith and polly smothers also indian) could not draw her pension because technically john morris did not exist. John's father was known as lige not sure if it is spelled right and not sure if that is short for something else how ever he at the time of his death not sure when that was also was known as morrison/morris for his surname. He married a woman with the maiden name of sherrill possibley some other spelling. THe picture is of james o. morris born between 1918 and 1919 son of john morris/ believed to be a redwing. my email email address is tjhnsn31@gmail.com thanks!
