HI everyone. I am looking for any information on a newsletter called the Native Voice. The last publishing date I can find is August 08, on the Internet. Does anyone know if this newsletter still exists, possibly going by a different name? Anyone that has any information please contact me so that I, too, can find out what is going on.
Thank you, Peacekeeper Jackie

Jimmy has a wonderful site- all links, organized beautifully. Look in the "newspaper" section for lots of sources of good info- dakotagenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?note- the link to native-voice.com is dead. I don't know if the link above is the same organization, or something different, but there are plenty of places to go for the latest news.

Thanks Vicky. The link is dead. I appreciate you trying. My nephew is now trying a few others. I am sad that the Native Voice seems to be gone. It was his favorite. Jackie

I'm new on this site, so excuse my possible mistakes. I'm looking for my wife's grand father's family. Genalga Lee Wilcox born 11/26/1900 MN & died 11/17/2963 Huron SD. I will post information if not too long. Thanks for any help! God Bless!
Helpful Information: Genalga Lee Wilcox (born 26 Nov 1900 MN & died Huron, SD at St. John’s Hospital of brain hemorrhage on 17 Nov 1963, and he is buried at Riverside Cemetery Pierre SD on his older sister’s plot Myrtle Wilcox Rossetti. His last home address was at Fort Pierre , SD. His father was to have been born in Minnesota , and his mother, (Mary?), was to have been born in Illinois . His parents were born an estimate times of birth was 1860 to 1880s. Genalga Lee Wicox’s mother, maybe Mary Wilcox was to have lived on Reservation near Wakpala , SD in the 1930s and maybe other years too. The reservation might have been at Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, Mc Laughlin, SDý - (605) 823-4634ý. His sister Myrtle Wilcox Rossetti was to have lived in Minneapolis Minnesota in the late 1940s & 1950s, and maybe she was born there in the time period of 1895 + or - 10 year frame period. She must have lived in the Pierre SD area sometime, for her grave plot was there, and she gave it to her younger brother, Genalga Lee Wilcox.
In South Dakota 1930 Federal Census shows Genalga Lee Wilcox was born around 1902. NOTE: But actually it was November 26, 1900 in Minnesota or maybe McPherson County , SD. Census shows him at age 28 and married at age 24 to Annette Marie Martell age 21 at their marriage date. They were married in McPherson county SD around 1925/26. They had two children, Darlene Mae Wilcox born 1926 McPherson County SD and her brother Ronald (Ronny) Wilcox born 1929 McPherson County SD. I think they lived in Eureka , SD. Annette Marie Wilcox lived in Eureka SD and her father August Martell & mother, Genefa, was to have been from Russia . August Martell was to have had a lumber yard in Eureka SD. The 1930 Federal Census shows them as white. Genalga Lee Wilcox was to have been raised on SD Reservation, but not sure. Darlene Mae Wilcox thought he might be Native American maybe Sioux or Cherokee, for his mother Mary Wilcox was to have lived on Reservation near Wakpala , SD in 1930s time period.

Hi Richard, The only reservation I know of near Wakpala is the Sisseton Wahpeton to the east. I have checked all the early Sisseton Wahpeton documents and find no Wilcox names. We have members here who can look at the Indian Census Schedules at ancestry.com for the names you mention. We'll try to help.

re.Annetta Marie Martell, her father August (b. @1869) immigrated here from Russia in 1884 and was Naturalized in 1889; her mother Genevieve( b. @1876) immigrated here from Russia,in 1892 and naturalized in 1892.Annette's siblings were all born in SD: Andrew, Albert, Leila, and Robert(Ref. US Census 1920 Eureka,McPherson,SD.
I found an Anna Martell who was born15 Oct. 1906, and died 30 Oct. 1992 in Multnomah(sp.),Oregon.spouse's name was Frank. (Oregon Death Index).don'know if this is your Annette Mary Martell. I cannot track Genalga forward in the Censuses after 1930, Ancestry's stop at 1930.type South Dakota GenWeb in google and search for possible records on him and/or his children.I would recommend you type Colorado GenWeb in google and search for Death Records, as ancestry does not have the Colorado death index. type Social security Death Index in googleand search for Genalga, and Annette Marie 's death dates and place of death. Hope the above helped you.
