Sara: There seems to be an invisible curtain between the US and Canada. There is a tremendous amount of information in Canada which never reaches us and I imagine it is the same vise-versa.
I should have written the names down, when I bring up the reply page I can't see them. Any way Tancan and Caske are at Portage la Prairie. Whiteman is at Birdtail. White Eagle and I forgot the other names are at Sioux Valley. I hope this helps, Louie

If you are related to Ticahdaiyotanka then the Yankton family here at Spirit Lake (Ft. Totten) are related to you. Roger Yankton is the Tribal Chairman. His telephone number is 701-766-1226. This is a bad time to call as he is in trouble with the people. I would also say he probably knows nothing of past relatives. The last weekend in July is our big Ft. Totten Days Pow-wow, that would be the time to come and introduce yourself.

Lawrence,
I still can't remember who I was looking those names up for. Maybe someone in Portage or Sioux Valley.. I was up for a Winter Fest some years ago and they had me set up a table to help people with family history info. Met allot of people that weekend, another time we went up to Sioux Valley for a Wacipi, then out to Standing Buffalo a few summers ago. Beautiful beautiful area! There are a ton of archives online for the reserves, can't believe the queen allows that, lol, great for you though! If you need anything inbox me.

twilums: Try the Knox County NE GenWeb. In the Cemeteries section, look for the Indian cemeteries. they have listing of burials there. also look in the Santee Registers under burials setion to see if you can find a listing for her. also ty the Moody County,SD Gen Web under emeteries or burials.

Lawrence, I recognize the name Ticahdaiyotanka from, I think, probate papers or land description from Sisseton SD. I am from the Ft Peck Resevation in Monana. My grandfather took us to powwows at FT. QuAppelle and have also attended Sioux Valley when I was younger. My aunt told us that we had relatives in Canada but never knew who we were related to. My grandmother Agnes Red Horse Walking Eagle was a sister to Angeline Red Horse Yankton from Ft. Totten ND. It looks like from the Dakota Diaspora, we were scattered MN to Canada! Maybe you could tell me who could be a related to us from Canada. I heard the names Whiteman, Goodwill mentioned but not sure! Allie Walking Eagle

They could be, Sara, but my parents made no mention of Standing Buffalo Reserve! My grandfather had visitors come stay with us who were from Canada but I was young and can't remember the names! There are Standing Buffalo descendants at Ft Peck, I understand. I remember seeing their names on one of the census taken at Ft Peck. They are mentioned as grandchildren of Standing Buffalo. Don't ask me the names as I don't have them on the tip of my tongue and I would have to dig out my census record to find out!
