I would like to thank you for posting this info. I found my GGGrandfather John Thompson on one of the lists and was able to go to the Courthouse in Sisseton and get a copy of his death certificate.

Hey, IHewitt, Hey, I was wondering if you could give me any information about John Thompson? I have a probate of John Thompson as well as a few pages testimony having to do with surviving the 1862 war. I'm not sure if this is the same person though, as your John Thompson sounds like a younger guy. The one I'm looking for was born about 1838 or thereabouts. If this COULD, be the same person, e-mail me so we can swap info. please! Thanks! Lori_WalkingEagle@hotmail.com

sisco and whiteswanii: Ellen Iron elk/ Wastemaniwin was not the wife of Peter Dumarce! she was the wife of Chief iron elk(dec'd 1887) then she married charles Standing soldier-also now dec'd.they had Jane who married Benjamin sky, then she married Alex Redwing; Fannie who married charles Moose, and Nancy henry James(nee Campbell). Susan Keahdayawin was not the mother of Joseph Redwing!
Whomever Mahpiyakoyakewin was that was w/o Peter DuMarce was also not the mother of Joseph Redwing. According to what little information I was given by one of the descendent's wives, re. James Redwing's Probate, indicates that a woman named Hapan was the mother of Joseph Redwing, and that James Redwing did not come forward and acknowledge him as his son, until he was a young boy.I have asked several times for a copy of the full heirship report on James Redwing including the testimony, but have not as yet received any of it, other than the first two or three pages of the formal report, which does not provide much of any thing that would help me to track down this Hapan, or Mahpiyakoyakewin . I don't have anything documentary that would confirm Susan Thomas as Joseph Redwing's mother either. the Santee Agency Baptismal Register only lists a Susan Redwing and Joseph redwing as his parents.

Ok, I'm stumped. Sallie Bain (1875 - ?) married Frank LaFramboise (1866 -1941). Haven't been able to find Sallie's death date/place in South Dakota. Who are Frank's parents? I'm working on a book of the Bain(e) family history and the LaFramboise's are a bit confusing to me. Can anyone help? - Thanks Rebecca

rebecca: there is some conflicitng info on who Frank Lafromboise and Sallie Bain(or Baine). LDs Archives say he was born 1867in ND(Standing rock Ind. Res. and died 1941 at Fort Yates. I confirmed this at ancestry. the question is who were his parents? LDS says that Joseph lafromboise and josephine Josette Catara. ancestry syas his parents were Frank lafromboise and Susan blackbird(b. 1834, and died 1919).Frank had a sister Mary White Buffalo.(July, 1885 Standing rock Ind. Census) They were listed as Yankton siouxs. As for Sallie Baine she was the daughter of William Baine, a Scotcho-irishman and Magare or Maggie Holyface. Sallie was born 1875 at Standing Rock Res. the standing rock indian census confirms this. she had a tleast brothers Emery,John and a brother George (ref. stdg. rock 1887 Census.) Sallie and Frank were wed in 1892. they had 10 children but there is nothing re. 5 of them who are still living. the other 5: Frances, Antoine-Edward, Antonia, and AmyV. the lastrecordon Sallie is the 1932 Stdg. Rock Ind. census which lists her at age 57 and Frank at age 64. William Baine also was wedto maggie's sister, susan Holy Face. They had Martha, andWilliam Milton baine(Bain). Your best bet is to contact the Standing rock Indian Agency and request informtion on Sallie or, contact NARA and get Frnank LaFrombboise's Heirship Report. give the pwrson's name, date of death and Tribal Affiliation. If they have records, itwill cost you $15.00 for 1-15 pages copied, plus 75 cents per additional page.copied You can pay with credit card or check. contact MaryFrances.Ronana@nara.gov.(correction: MaryFrances.Ronan@nara.gov)

Herman1. Thank you for the info. I'm trying to complete a book of the Baine Family History for my Dad, Leonard Baine, he just turned 88. My GGGrandparents were William Baine and Susan Holy Face; GGrandparents William Milton Baine and Jennie Fitting; Grandparents William Walter Baine and Edna Locke. Do you think there is a way for me to contact Frank & Sallie's living children? I'm looking for old photos. - Rebecca

Rebecca: What I would suggest is you go to www.skipease.com and type in Lafromboise for the last name, and type in South Dakota for the state andpress search. This wil lgive you the names and addresses of everyone with that surname in South Dakota. Note you may be asked to sign into either Yahoo, or google to access some of the telephone numbers. Idon't know what cities are included in the Standing Rock Ind. Res. so you first need to determine the names of the cities. then when you have this, log into skipease and follow theinstructions above. then you make up a form letter and mail it to everyone that you find at skipease and tell them why you arewriting. Hopefully they will write you back. If you knew someone ther at Standing Rock Res. ,they would have a phone book and could send you names, addresses, and phone numbers. antoine-Edward died in Mobridge ,SD. Try typing in Mobridge,South dakota with surname lafromboise., at skip ease for a start.

Thanks. Unfortunately neither my grandparents or Father ever spoke about the family in SD. We only knew our Italian relatives and I live in California. But will try to your suggestion. Most of my info I found in Ancestry and my two visits to Sisseton. - Thanks again - Rebecca

I'm getting a bit better at researching but am still totally stumped by who Alex Spiders (1871-1947) parents are. If you can help me with this, then I'd be able to get some sleep. I can't afford to buy any documents right now, so any help would be humbly appreciated.
