Vicky, The book is Joseph R. Brown ADVENTURER on the Minnesota Frontier 1840 - 1849. I have the book, It was the first book I bought when I started searching for info. on my ancestry. Margaret's mothers maiden name was Lagrue not Cadotte, Sagan or Trout etc. I have baptism, marriage records to support what her maiden name was. Margaret's brother Francois married a Cadotte. I also have their marriage record. Antoine, her other brother married Genevieve ( Catherine/Jennie ) Brunell. Antoine and Genevieve are my 2x's great-grandparents and Francois and Margarette Lagrue McCoy are my 3x's great-grandparents. Margaret ( McCoy ) and Joseph Brown's daughter Mary : so far I haven't found any proof that she was married to Mathew Jerdine, Mary was married to Harry/Henry Brunell.
Margaret McCoy/Brown later married Joseph Bourcier/Bush. Patty

A friend sent this to me, for you folks looking for the Frenier family. I don't have a clue what it says. I recognize the Frenier name as well as Sibley and Lake Traverse. Perhaps our dear member Sylvia can translate. Please, if this contains something offensive, let me know and I will delete it. The following appears to come from the Sibley Papers-

This is what it says: * * * Lake Traverse, 11 October 1842 Sir, My son Xavier went to the river at Jacques to buy some meat. All the Indians at Lake Traverse are camped along this river. They have no lack of things to live on. Prairie animals are not rare this year. I learned that Mr. Bearnd (??) had gone to the ‘butte plaie’ (?) to the iron-workers. I am going to send my son that way also. I beg you to send me, next spring, by barge, powder, lead, tobacco, and food. Please send me, by the bearer of this letter, a large file to sharpen a plow. If the treaty was ratified I would gladly take it upon myself to work the land of the Lake Traverse Indians, if you could get that spot for me. If you can send a man to spend the summer at Lake Traverse, it would be a great help. I need a man capable of working the land. Don’t forget me, regarding the ‘roux’ [I’m not sure if that’s a misspelling of ‘roues’ meaning ‘wheels’, or if it's short for 'peau-rouge' meaning ‘redskins’]. I am, for life, your totally devoted servant, F. Frenier Mr. Ravoux sends his respects to Mr. Sibley and Mr. Forbes. * * * Where I've written 'Indians' he actually uses the word 'sauvages', which literally means 'savages', but I don't think it's as extreme or derogatory in French as it is in English (bad enough though), so that's why I went for 'Indians'. A friend sent this to me, for you folks looking for the Frenier family. I don't have a clue what it says. I recognize the Frenier name as well as Sibley and Lake Traverse. Hi Patty. Antoine McCoy (Son of Francois and Margaret) is my Great Great Grandfather. I was wondering where you found the information about his mother Margaret? I have seen her listed as Sagan, Lagrue, etc., but have never been able to find any other information about her. Does the documentation you have include the names of her parents? I was very excited to read your post, have been working on my McCoy/Brunell genealogy for a very long time. Thank you for any info you may have Bridget

Bridget, you may want to give me a write back. I have quite allot on the McCoy's that you may be interested in. And I have some fellow researchers that know quite allot about them as well. If Antoine McCoy is your great Great Grandfather, then you and I are 3rd cousins twice removed. Our ancestors in common are Francois Xavier McCoy/McKay and Margaret Lagrue. I also need to ask if you have a picture of Antoine? Because there is one that I know of. We have quite allot of documentation on the McCoy's. TOM
