I'm looking for more information on one of the Renville Rangers. He is called Joseph Paro on one list and Joseph Pereau on another. He was killed at the battle of Wood Lake. Does anybody know anything about him? When was he born, who his parents were? Was he a mixed blood?
Thanks

Hey Jimmy, The Paro family took refuge at Fort Ridgley in 1862. The father was killed, and they resided at Lecroy (LaCroix) Creek where Louis and Rosalie LaCroix also lived. The creek was later named Birch Coulee Creek. The older Paro children were born in Canada. The 5 year old in MN. I think it is safe to imagine that Joseph was their oldest son and he was born in Canada.

Gosh Jimmy, I just don't know, now that I look at the 1860 Federal census. This would appear to be the same family, and they have a son named Joseph, but he is only 8 years old.
