I am connected through Margaret Dumarce/Prescott. She goes by one name on the '86 census, and the other name on the '89 census. She adopted and raised my great grandfather from the time he was a baby, after her sister Tateaicagewin died around 1866 or so. He would have been about 20 when they took this first census and wasn't living with her anymore, so he doesn't show up on the census, as I think he may have been in the Flandreau area, or possibly away at school. The Mohrman/Kaardal group rejected us because of the adoption, even though she was his blood aunt. Had his mother lived, there would be no question. So we have another attorney who took our case, and we are part of the interveners group. Another of my other great great grandfathers was at the War of 1862, and is listed in the trial records as being loyal, and was even aquitted. But was still sent to prison for several months, just for being Dakota! His name was John (Tatecanhpi) Wilson. John Wilson was in Flandreau most of his adult life, (not on either census) So that's my story.

Sominex did you try to contact the county courthouse where margaret dumarce\prescott died" I believe they have a copy of her court Probate records. You might see if you can find him on any of the flandreau censuses, and also see ifyou canfind his school records. Jimmy of our website may be able to help you with school records. Try the hampton Institute, the Pipestone Indian School Student records at the NARA. the south Dakota indian Schools, and Genoa Indian School in Nebraska,

Wanbliho, I do have some information on John Thompson, like his probate, and his testimony about the war of 1862. It's several pages long. I'm not for certain that he's the father of Peter (my gr. grandfather). Would you like me to send you a copy of what I have? Do you have anything on him? Let me know. I haven't looked at this board for a long time, sorry about the late reply. Please contact me when you get this. My e-mail address is listed. Thanks for your interest.

sominex; Margaret Prescott/Dumarce's maiden name was Jones. John Thompson does show up on the census records for Santee. John's parents on 1902 Santee Census are listed as Watokoyagmani, mother N/a His wife is listed as Mazapiiciyewin Age 48. her parents were Wakute and Zithasakoyakewin. both parents dead. His daughter Alice aka Mazawicuwin is on the 1884, 1887, and 1895 Santee Censuses. John Thompson was previously married in 1868 at Santee to Hapahdeyewin.
Do you have a death certificate or Obituary for your gr.grandfather? These may provide some information for you. I tried to find him at Ancestry under the name Thompson, and Prescott, and got zilch!!. As I recall the Court Records re.Margaret's Probate, made no mention at all of your gr.grandfather. It would help me if you would make up a family history, starting with your parents, and then, working back, list vital data for them and their parents and so on. You can send ittomeat dakounas@yahoo.com,or post it here at oyate,so that we will be able to help you.

Sominex, according to Ancestry.com it looks like Tateaicagewin is my great great great grandmother. Can you tell me anything about her? I am trying to trace my lineage back to the tribe. We have virtually no information for this side of my dad's family. I was told growing up that we were never on the role. I'm trying to figure out as much as I can.
Thanks!!
